Afghanistan earthquakes - if you believe in a kind god why do you think this happens?

How much more can the people of that country take - what did they do to deserve such a terrible deal in life?

Wars, Taliban, corruption, politics, whatever are man-made, literally, but how can a god, who people from all religions worship, visit such a catastrophe on innocent people.

How do believers believe?

To remind us to donate to charity and give generously whatever we can afford as there are always people worse off.

Testing people and whether they are true believers whatever calamity comes their way.

I guess if you believe in a benevolent God, you also believe in a malevolent Satan

In incidents like this, are precisely why there has to be likely conclusion that there is no God.

That's how I feel mostly. I don't believe such suffering and death are part of anyone's plan.

damemaggiescurledupperlip · 02/09/2025 18:32

Who can cause earthquakes for shits and goggles

Moonmelodies · 02/09/2025 18:34

Poor old god is pretty useless.

AMillionTomorrows · 02/09/2025 18:36

I don’t think we are of much consequence to God. We are like dust, not important as individuals, only part of something much greater and more important. The women and children who are abused and starved along the way are as equal as the evil that oppresses them, if you look from a far enough distance. So it’s up to us who can see to try and make it better.

this is a stupid theory. Just because you create something doesn’t mean you have full control over its existence. I have 4 children does that mean I am in control of all their behaviours for the rest of their lives?

Of course not. But this is God we’re talking about! And us mere mortals are certainly not in control of tectonic plates

Live how you want. But you cannot expect others to believe that tripe. Ones who live with disabilities, ones who have lost people, including young children to vile diseases?

If someone tried to comfort me saying my pain is all part of some gods plan then I'd have to walk away

I live with disability, have had terrible things happen, grief, pain, injustice. I haven't once blamed God. Why would I?

I don't expect other people to believe, but the OP asked for an explanation and I gave the Christian viewpoint. Information about what we believe, that's all. Why be angry?

Why do you believe God is benevolent? If there is a God deciding what occurs here on earth, He/She/It is not benevolent.

No, doesn't make any sense that someone is up there deciding that (amongst other awful things) little children are kidnapped and tortured, or animals are kept for years in awful conditions, and people are dying of starvation. Never been able to marry it up myself.

Well no, I don't blame God either. Because he is as real as santa.

I'm not angry. I'm aghast at people trying to explain the pain and suffering in the world somehow being part of God's plan.

God washed his hands of Afghanistan a looooong time ago.

You couldn't be more wrong.

You couldn't be more wrong.

What is happening in Afghanistan that can only be attributed to a supernatural invisible benevolent cosmic entity?

HeinzTomato · 03/09/2025 13:05

Most religious believers I know don't believe in a personal god in that sense at all.
