What time does your Year 1 go to bed?

Interested in what the general bedtime is around this age/stage.

Mine is recently 5, summer born. He needs a lot of sleep but I never quite know if I need to adjust bedtime. He seems to go much earlier than his friends. Asleep by 7.30/7.45.

My winter born DC1 was going to bed at 7.30pm in yr 1. And yr 2, and yr 3... even now aged 11 she goes to sleep by 8.30pm and seemingly well before most of her friends. My summer born younger one is up much later!

Their sleep needs are all so different, do what you think is best for your child.

It's drifted back to 9pm over the summer holidays, but DS2 (5.5 going into year 1) had a 8.30 bedtime all last year. Will aim for 8.30 again this year too.
(He does still have an occasional car nap after busy days out)

During y1: in bed around 7.30pm and asleep usually around 8pm latest 8.30pm

Usually awake 6.30am to 7am including weekends

7.30 and he is one of the oldest in the year

DS1 (going into Yr2) goes to bed at 7.15 and is also at 7.30 with no issues or complaints, and then is up religiously at 7. His younger brother is far more of a night owl, and rarely asleep before 8.30.

9pm. Up at 7am with no prompting. It's normal for her to get home at 7.30pm some weekdays after extracurriculars.

In bed for around 8:30ish and then we read until 9ish.

Mine is December born but goes to bed at 7. I am thinking about adjusting to 7.30.

When my eldest was that age usually 7.30 but it’s creeped later as life has got more complicated and now my reception age child is in bed at 8/8.15. We just can’t do it any earlier with an older child, after school activities, return to the office/commuting and then needing to cook and eat dinner.

If 7.30 works with the family’s routine, he’s tired enough to sleep and isn’t waking early then I wouldn’t rush to change anything. Don’t worry about what others do- Y1s aren’t usually the best at telling the time so I highly doubt he’s comparing bedtimes with his school chums.

DS is going into year 3 and still going to bed at 7, usually out like a light and awake at 7 so gets pretty much a full 12 hours
