What shoes do you wear in wet weather?

Presumably you’re not all wearing wellies all the time, but if I wear normal shoes (Converse, lightweight leather shoes etc) obviously my feet get wet. Am I missing something or are everyone else’s feet also just getting wet? Do you use a waterproofing product? If so, any recommendations?

DMs, leather trainers. Flip flops is summer storm and feet will dry, no wot socks.

Just normal trainers for work and the supermarket. I have about 4 casual pairs so I can rotate them in wet weather. Yes, my socks get wet. I often take a spare pair of trainers and socks to work. The thing is that I can walk quickly in trainers so it's a trade off between speed and comfort and damp toes.

When it's torrential rain I wear those cheap snow boots (mountain warehouse / trespass?) that have the bottom half covered with rubber so they're like wellies.

In summer I’ll just wear trainers (all mine are pretty much waterproof). Winter I’ll wear boots (not wellies unless we are going for a muddy walk!!)

If I’m working that day, I’ll wear trainers on my journey and change into my work shoes at work

Zempy · 02/09/2025 09:04

Leather boots.

Mynewnameis · 02/09/2025 09:10

Ecco boots or DMs usually

ViaRia01 · 02/09/2025 09:25

Do you do loads of walking?

I just wear my usual shoes in the rain - so it may be leather ankle boots (with a protector spray), asics running trainers, leather trainer with a thick flat sole like tennis shoes). My feet my get a little splashed ocassionally but I don’t generally have a problem with feet getting soaked.

For very rainy days or if the path is covered with puddles, I wear lovely wellies. I get then from Joules but other places sell them too. Ankle height, with elasticated sides so they look a little like Chelsea boots. Current ones are black but I’ve also had black ones the leopard print elastic. I prefer these rather than brightly coloured or patterned alternatives but that’s just down to individual preference.

Unless it's torrential it's not that much of a problem.
But leather/suede ankle boots, leather knee boots in heavy rain and/or mud (I have some Dubarry slip-on ones; easy to put on and take off but look nicer than wellies), or leather brogues. I like men's ones; they seem sturdier. I have a couple of pairs from TK Maxx.

VenusClapTrap · 02/09/2025 09:37

Wellies. It gets very muddy here.

Natsku · 02/09/2025 09:39

I have leather walking shoes which keep the rain off pretty well, waterproof trainers, and in winter I wear boots.

JurgenKloppsTeeth · 02/09/2025 12:06

Thanks all. It’s more at this time of year when there’s lots of heavy showers when I’m walking to work. So wellies are a bit warm and sweaty. I think there’s probably also an element of “suck it up and take a spare pair” so I’ll just have to organise myself!

Leather trainers or leather boots, very rarely wellies unless I'm out in mud.

canyon2000 · 02/09/2025 12:10

I wear Nike Gore-tex trainers.

Passthecake30 · 02/09/2025 12:38

Leather trainers, if I was going to the office I’d wear boots.

itsgettingweird · 02/09/2025 12:41

Leather trainers.

Crocs if it’s hot and sunny and my feet will dry after a downpour and I’m nipping out rather than going to work or whatever?!
