Overstayed in Sainsburys car park by four mins, will I receive a ticket?

I accidentally overstayed in a sainsburys car park yesterday. I've looked at my google timeline and the overstay was four minutes. Will I receive a ticket or is there a grace period? I'm all chewed up about it and can't sleep and I have stomach ache.

You’ll be fine. I’m sure you’d have been given a ticket.

Get some help for your anxiety.

worst case scenario is you have to pay £30 or something ( ir’s usually a lot cheaper if you pay quickly) then get on with your day.

not worth getting even a tiny bit worried over 😊

You don't get a ticket straight away as it's an automatic numberplate recognition system. The fine is around £50 even if you pay immediately and I don't have a lot of money.

Our local Sainsbury’s has a 15 minute grace period. I’ve sat in traffic waiting for 20 minutes to leave the car park at busy times!

If you do end up getting one, which I would say is unlikely, speak to customer services and see if they can get it cancelled.

I’m not sure about Sainsbury’s and who monitors their car parks I stayed over 2mins and got a ticket through the post. I’ve still not paid it and that was 4 years ago

There's good practice guidance which includes a grace period of 10 minutes so I'd not expect a ticket for 4 minutes over.

In the unlikely event you do get a ticket, it's probably worth appealing, especially if you have good reason for the overstay, eg mobility issues, very large amount of shopping.

Car park time limits are usually to stop people using the car park and going off site, not restricting genuine customes.

There’s a grace period, but also if you did get a ticket go in ASAP - my local Sainsburys have their own login to the car park providers site and have an option to cancel PCNs, and routinely do so for customers who overstay.

I went 30 mins over recently (bumped into a friend in there unexpectedly and we went for a coffee.. completely forgot there was a time limit) . Because it was well over the limit, the lady at the customer service desk checked my receipt and it was just under £200. She said they normally only write them off over 200 but she’d do it this once as a gesture of goodwill.

Yours is only just over - I think you should escape but if you get one (unlikely) just take it to customer services with your receipt with a big smile on your face and ask!

If you go and speak to the staff they will be able to send of your reg and ask the parking company not to issue a ticket.

We have the same automated system at my work and often have to send off customer’s number plates for overstaying.

The staff won’t mind at all, just go speak to them today and you’ll be fine.
