Do Brits recall Queen Elizabeth II as just an elderly figure or can they remember her as middle-aged or young?

If you are old enough to remember, is there a specific year or specific time period in which people started to recognise her longevity as sovereign and she became seen as an old woman and a link to the past rather than a young woman or a middle-aged mother? A specific year.

A grandmother-figure vs mother figure vs same age vs younger etc.

I was born in 1980 so only remember her being old

She would have been 50 when I was first aware of her, but the early 80s were utterly dominated by tv images of princess Diana, and also a little bit of Fergie. Then Harry and Willian as children. So The Queen was almost invisble behind all that, and Prince Charles felt almost like a bit-part in the show for a long time.

I think because of that, perhaps the years when she was moving from being a Mum to being a Granny were kind of not that noticeable. She only came to the fore again after it all quietened down and by that time she was definitely into a sort of lovely-Granny phase.
