Customer making me feel uncomfortable

I work in retail and for the past few weeks a male customer has been shopping a few times a week. I don’t know why but I’m feeling uncomfortable when he’s in the shop. He seems to look for me and often asks a question about a product or where he can find something. He was in again today and started to walk towards me so I quickly walked away. About 10 minutes later he appeared again and asked where he can find something. I said I didn’t know and walked off.

what can I do about this? I don’t actually have anything to say that he’s done wrong as many customers ask me questions. He just gives me the creeps and I trust my instincts.

Trust your gut and avoid if he’s creeping you out

Could be he wants to ask you out

Is he a similar age? Sounds like he’s looking for opportunities to speak to you. Probably costing him a fortune in extra shopping.
Not making light of it though if he’s making you feel uncomfortable. Maybe mention it to your supervisor?

He’s twice my age! It’s making me feel sick. I want to tell my supervisor but not sure what to say

Tell your supervisor they need to protect you x

Absolutely tell your supervisor. Say that you realise he hasn’t done anything wrong but you are starting to feel uneasy and would appreciate if you could call for someone else to deal with him, when he comes in.

Does he seem familiar? Long lost relative?

make sure supervisor knows asap to set your mind at rest

Ak12G · 01/09/2025 20:37

Definitely not familiar. I will speak with supervisor tomorrow.

Definitely speak to your supervisor @Ak12G!

I’m a retail supervisor and would be upset if one of my team didn’t tell me that someone was making them feel uncomfortable.

How many staff are with you on the shop floor? Do you work by yourself at all or is it a bigger store? Do you know if he’s shopping at other times or just when you are working?

If you do find yourself in a position where you have to speak to him for any reason, keep it formal and polite, only answering his questions relating to shopping and nothing else if he turns it personal at all.
