How much are your kids swimming classes?

Appreciate the cost of living but we’ve had two price rises in a year and it’s now £12 per half hour lesson a week. Times 2 children, if there’s 5 weeks in a month it’s costing me an arm and leg. Does this seem steep to what everyone else is paying?

My elder 2 DC went to swimming club as both strong swimmers and they recruited me to do the swim teacher course. I taught swim lessons at the swim club for about 7 years whilst both my DC went and a year after too. I actually taught a swimmer who went on to gain an Olympic Bronze medal in relay race. I taught him when he was 9-11 and he wasn't even the best swimmer in his age group at the time. I taught my youngest DC to swim myself and also eldest foster son too. I've recently got a new foster DC so will be teaching him to swim in September. Once he can swim 50 metres I'll sign him up to swimming club. I've probably saved a lot of money over the years by teaching them to swim and stroke improvement myself.

£28 per lesson, 1:1 (DS is ND)

I have just moved from another organisation which was £55 per half hour 1:1 lesson and they increased price to £60 per lesson.

6.30 a lesson for half an hour, local leisure centre South Wales. Classes around 8 but usually quieter. Pay in blocks of 10.

£102 for 10 week block for 1:1 special needs lessons in local children’s centre. He gets a volunteer with him and there’s two swim teachers, 3 other kids with either 1 or 2 volunteers each depending on level of need.

Goldbar · 01/09/2025 01:04

£45 per month. Local council-run leisure centre. 30 minutes, group of around 8.

Hereforthecommentz · 01/09/2025 01:09

£29 per month group lesson in local swim pool and that gets him free public swim sessions aswell.

birdling · 01/09/2025 08:33

Approx £30 per month for 30 minutes lessons. Could be up to eight in a class, but if you pick an unpopular time, you can get 1:1 if you are lucky.
My son just got through stage 3 in super quick time because there was only him in his group.

£64 per month for 30mins. Two children, so pay £128 a month 🤢

Same here - I have twins. It’s our biggest activity spend per month

usernotfound0000 · 01/09/2025 08:52

£28 a month at the local leisure centre. 30 mins in groups up to 8. We’ve paid for expensive ones previously (Swim - £60 a month) and found that the progress is much better with the leisure centre, but it can be difficult to get a place.

littlemousebigcheese · 01/09/2025 14:01

£22 per half hour lesson, 2 children so £176 a month usually

Thanks all v helpful and making me feel a little better- is what it is. Our local leisure centre is slightly cheaper but also crap- teachers not turning up no admin communication, run my sullen teenagers so not overly keen to move them. God I hope they can swim soon lol

£23.50 a month, half hour lesson a week, recently went up from £21.
Not sure on limit per class but there are usually 4 of them in the classes.
Three kids currently going, soon will be 4.
Local council run pool, the staff are utterly brilliant.

Mummyslittlegiraffe · 01/09/2025 19:46

£31.50 a month for 30 mins each week. Only break is over Christmas. ratio is never more than 1:4, usually there is a student instructor in the water as well. University pool, an absolute hidden gem in our city. Lessons entitles to swim at any casual or family swim session too, I have a swim membership, so we also fun swim at least once a week, more in the holidays. I consider this a bargain!

enjoyinglifenowretired · 01/09/2025 20:43

£29 per month. 8 in class. South Wales

LeedsZebra90 · 01/09/2025 20:51

12 for a half hour lesson weekly with a max of 3 in each class (i have 3 children in lessons so spending a fortune) My eldest is starting with a club soon now turned 8 which is 25 a month for 2 1 hour sessions a week plus free use of the council pool whenever they like so much better for my bank account!

HippeePrincess · 01/09/2025 20:53

£160 a term upfront 😭

Chipsahoy · 01/09/2025 20:54

£60 for ten lessons in council pool, Scotland

luckysdadsway · 01/09/2025 20:55

£37.50 a month for a half hour session a week

GRCP · 01/09/2025 20:58

Class of 8, £9 for 25 minute session weekly (pay monthly) plus unlimited swimming. SE London.

Peanut91 · 01/09/2025 21:01

I pay £9.60 a lesson for my kids to have lessons with a local swimming club who takes them from 3yrs

MyAcornWood · 01/09/2025 21:04

I pay £58 per month for my 3yo DS’s lessons, half hour lessons in a class of 3-4. Feels expensive to me, especially with the prospect of having to start paying for my daughter too in a few months 😅

charlieandthechocolatfactory · 01/09/2025 21:05

£22 per 30 min lesson, Bushey Hertfordshire

Elmo230885 · 01/09/2025 21:06

£50 for 8 x 30 minute group lessons

DrunkenKoala · 01/09/2025 21:19

About £8 for a half hour lesson at the council run leisure centre.

There are usually 5/6 kids per lesson, but she’s quite high up the stages now, when she was doing stages 1 & 2 there were usually around 10 - 12 kids with an instructor and helper in the pool.

FancyCatSlave · 01/09/2025 21:21

£8.50 for 30 mins. Small groups, max 8 per lesson with 2 teachers in the pool. So 1:4

It was £8 last term but I don’t begrudge the extra 50p as I think the price is very fair.

Rural East Mids. Private swim school/pool.
