What have I forgotten to pack for my holiday?!!

Can’t shake the feeling that I’ve forgotten something, flying to Italy this weekend

I’ve packed all the normal clothes - daytime and evening, shorts and t-shirts, pyjamas and swimwear. I’ve got a jumper to wear and a raincoat just in case. A spare pair of trainers and some sandals for the evening.

in my hand luggage I have the usual liquids, sunglasses (prescription and non), a book, medicine etc and chargers. Got adapter plugs

what have I forgotten?!

Plug adapters!

You’ve not mentioned underwear - hopefully you’ve packed that!!

Towels?

GHIC cards.
bank cards

I always forget water bottles but that depends on whether you use them or not!

Also like to take uno and a pack of cards.

Lots of underwear!

ghic cards stay in our travel document folder, bank cards on my phone. Not taking towels as the hotel will have them!

Pyjamas? You would need to pack 7 pairs unless you are in SC with a washing machine? Surely be hot enough to sleep naked.. l only take 10kg and 7 dresses is a lot of weight with all the other stuff... mind I've got it down to a fine art now... we go abroad every six weeks .

Who takes 7 pairs of PJs away?

OwlsR · 30/08/2025 18:00

Any prescription medication, with copy of prescription and things like paracetamol, the odd plaster, tissues.

Lots of painkillers, nothing on prescription for me but I do have my contact lenses!

Deodorant, 4 way adaptors - that way you only need one travel plug for multiple devices

IGaveSoManySigns · 30/08/2025 18:03

I had forgotten my cap, which is now in my bag!

MeAndMyGhost · 30/08/2025 18:03

Chargers
eye mask
ear plugs
hand cream
portable speaker

Coldnightsapproachingwhereismyduvet · 30/08/2025 19:58

Foot lotion and socks. Nice feet overnight.. Every night.

IGaveSoManySigns · 30/08/2025 20:04

I have just been informed there is apparently a limit on the size of power banks you can take on planes now?!

72 pairs of underwear juuuust in case you shit yourself 10 times a day (why do we do that?!)

We always pack compeed blister plasters and they always get used by at least one of us.

A book?

I also take a couple of large resealable freezer bags for bringing things like wet swimwear home without getting everything else wet. Also handy if you get any food you want to keep fresh.

I'm an insulated water bottle wanker so take mine with me. Just make sure it's empty if flying unless you want to be pulled aside at security (whoops!)

londongirl12 · 30/08/2025 20:07

I always take cold and flu tablets (had a bad reaction to American ones before), paracetamol and Imodium!

CharlotteCChapel · 30/08/2025 20:19

When my brain is working I've managed to forget my underwear.

Last month when I had serious brain fog. I forgot pants , trousers and tops but managed to pack three nightdresses . The day after we got back I ended up in a&e

ShodAndShadySenators · 30/08/2025 20:23

@IGaveSoManySigns You say you have travel adaptors. I had to buy one in Naples because my European ones which worked in Greece and Germany did not fit in the sockets in Italy. Unlikely to be just Naples that's different... I got just one and fitted it on my four way extension

Lennonjingles · 30/08/2025 20:24

Books and magazines.

Yes, it has to be under 100 Wh - and some airlines apparently don't want you using them during flights either...

"Emirates is not banning power banks entirely but is prohibiting their use on flights starting October 1, 2025, due to safety concerns about fires and explosions from overheating lithium batteries. Passengers can still carry one power bank under 100 Wh, provided it has visible capacity information, is kept in a seat pocket or under the seat, and remains switched off during the flight."

Doyouthinktheyknow · 30/08/2025 20:34

We’re going to Yorkshire for a week, it feels like we are moving out, we’ve packed so much stuff🫣

Swimwear packed? I forgot mine! Headphones, downloading tv to watch on the plane. Toothbrush charger. Dh remembered charging cables last time but no plugs, don’t make that mistake😩

Based on personal experience, haemorrhoids cream. Hadn’t suffered for years until we went to Venice, all that walking with piles😩 The haemorrhoids cream I was sold in Venice was shit (pun intended) so I travel with germoloids cream now!

Have a fabulous time😎

Both of mine are under 100wh (one of them only just!), but this is brand new information to me 😭

Looks like the normal European ones but this is spinning me out now 🤣

In addition to all the stuff mentioned, which are the usual things nowadays, I pack two additional items always.....

My ground flax, chia, and wheat bran mix for yogurt. Stops the holiday constipation which I was plagued with for a long time. Not anymore! Impossible to ask for all that seedy stuff in a foreign supermarket, takes too much precious holiday time so I bring my own supply!

I bring a tiny push down usb bulb/lamp about the size of a small lime, and blu tak it tod the side of the bedside locker. It's great for getting up in the night without disturbing anyone with either the bedside light or the main light.

Can buy anything else I need. I do bring older knickers but not raggy. Those due for a change, and leave them in the bin on the way home. Same with T shirts for bed. The older the better, and discard.

Reallybadidea · 30/08/2025 20:39

Sorry, it was a surprise to me too... I was lucky that there was a small electricals shop on the same road as our accommodation. I had been staying in a friend's house first and all my adaptors worked fine there, but the Naples apartment was different. Hopefully your accommodation will have the standard European sockets!

@wuminty
Please can you elaborate on the push down light? Sounds v useful

OP - not popular on MN but some sort of make up remover wipes or baby wipes are often useful on holidays

wuminty · 31/08/2025 11:46

@wwyd2021medicine I'm half afraid to admit it on MN, but I got mine on Shein, about a fiver. Called touch control LED nightlight.

wellingtonsandwaffles · 31/08/2025 15:30

After sun / moisturiser
goggles
pool toys if kids
book
chargers
suncream and scissors always very useful for me!
pool/beach cover up
little fan if you have one

we were in Europe last week - I was worried by the forecast. It rained for an hour 3/7 afternoons and the rest of the day was 30+ still - was fine
