Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. The kittens have been fed & gone back to bed for the morning, and both girls are up already!

Dd1's currently showering & I'm getting in after her. We're off to a By The Sea music festival in Bridlington today, to see a small indie artist we've been following. Dd2 decided to come too! She's just eating breakfast.

Plan is to wander Brid a bit, eat chips on the beach, see the artist, maybe hang around for a couple more, then ice creams on the beach 😋. If there's time there'll be sticks of rock for the train home 🚅. Fingers crossed the weather holds out for us 🤞.

When we get in, it'll be cuppa and bed for me! Probably dd1 too. We were at a very lively gig last night at a skatepark in Manchester. Really fun, but I ache and am tired today 🙈.

What about all of you? 🙂

Morning. Had planned to take twins shopping for uni stuff and they’re away in the next few weeks but they’re both still in bed having got in at 4am 😵‍💫.

Might do some meal prep and then head to the gym for an hour while I’m waiting for them to surface!

OneLilacEagle · 30/08/2025 10:35

Morning all. Just finished a lovely breakfast of bagels with bacon and cream cheese. DS is having a game with a friend on roblox and DH has just started work on our extension. It's been a long time in the planning and preparation and I thought I'd feel more excited to get started but I'm just really nervous! My 40s have knocked all the optimism out of me. In a bit I'll take DS out. He wants to try the climbing area at our local leisure centre and then lunch, maybe a swim. Later will be some yoga and Japanese study. Maybe a bath. I'm trying for a self care September but am starting early! Roast chicken of some description for dinner. Have a good day everyone.

Umbongoumbongo999 · 30/08/2025 10:43

Morning Lucysmam and all. I'm taking it very easy this morning after far too much wine at the pub quiz. I'm going to migrate from bed to sofa shortly and try some toast. I've done a library run this week so have about 10 books to crack through so I can soothe my hangover with some reading under a blanket. I was planning to have a sober September and really work on getting in shape physically and mentally. I guess that starts today!

I had the online shop delivered yesterday so no need to go out. Dinner will be burritos with all the bits. Dh has put a wash on and is watching sports on tv. Ds is pottering around, and working the late shift today.

Hope everyone has a good day

MrsPengiuins · 30/08/2025 10:48

So sorry @Hectorito hope your DD will be OK.

That sounds a lovely day @lucysmam

DD has gone back to university yesterday early for rowing trials. The cat is where did DD go? 🙀Though he's used to her coming and going now. I've done some cleaning. DH is just getting up. Weather looks good. Just back from a weeks holiday. May do some gardening if weather stays good or more sorting of house. DD started to sort her room before she left and now over half the floor can be seen, and half our plates and cutlery have reappeared and around 6 bags to get rid of have been made.

frozendaisy · 30/08/2025 10:56

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

Your day sounds lovely @lucysmam .

Congratulations on baby @OnlyYellowRoses. How lovely.

@Hectorito - how awful. So sad for your DD. I hope she is ok.

I have been up ages as always but only manage to get on here quite late. I had a cuppa and did my puzzles and then went out for my walk. Came back and made a dessert to take to village bbq this afternoon. DH is one of organisers so I’m helping him out as his knees are not great so I have to go and pick up some gazebos to be out up, help put up said gazebos, come back home for a bit and load car up with gas for the bbq plus everything else that will need transporting and drive DH over as the rest of the committee are meeting way too early so I’ll come home for a bit and then wander over. With a rain coat as it’s definitely due to rain. So I don’t think it will go in too late and I suspect we will end up in the pub on the green for dinner.

I think it will be an early night. At least that’s my plan!

Tarkan · 30/08/2025 11:00

Morning all. I’m just out of bed but didn’t fall asleep until after 4am. Considering I’ve been averaging around 3-4 hours a night I feel like I’ve had a really good sleep. I even somehow slept through my phone ringing just after 7am and that’s unheard of for me.

Off to the footy today. It’s also our town’s Pride today so DD is heading along soon. Both kids were meant to go but the 17yo is too tired so DD is just popping along herself. I would have gone but I’ve been in a horrible fibro flare for the last week.

@Hectorito- so sorry for your DD’s loss. I’m glad she has such good family looking out for her. Speaking from personal experience it really does help. 😘

DilemmaDelilah · 30/08/2025 11:13

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. Actually it's not a good morning for me as I'm really sick at the moment, as in really bad nausea, weakness and dizziness. It's a side effect of mounjaro, which I've had to stop taking at the moment. Youngest DD and Houdini came to stay on Wednesday and I've probably managed to see them for a total of about 6 hours altogether. Eldest DD and her family are coming over for youngest DD's birthday lunch today. Mr Dilemma is a SAINT! He has done all the last minute cleaning and tidying (thank goodness we made the beds and did the big stuff last weekend), he has done all the meals, and he has even made youngest DD's birthday cake. Youngest DD had pre-arranged to go out with some old friends this evening, so Mr Dilemma is going to look after Houdini and put him to bed. Houdini is delightful at the moment, which helps!

So - I'm going to be there for lunch even though I will probably go back to bed afterwards - and no chocolate orange cake for me.

JingsMahBucket · 30/08/2025 11:35

@ShipshapeShore I also love reading everyone’s plans and find it a bit comforting as well. Thanks so much to @lucysmam for stating this tradition ☺️

@OnlyYellowRoses congrats on your new little one. Hopefully she lets you have a rest from all that milk drinking soon!

I was up at the ass crack of dawn this morning (4:30am) to catch an early train to Glasgow to drop off my computer at the Apple Store for repairs. Thankfully I have a back up computer because they’re keeping my primary laptop for 5–7 days. 😫 There’s an issue with my backup computer too but they couldn’t resolve it in store. I can work around it though. The next couple weeks are crunch time for me so I need everything to go smoothly.

Anyway, I’m back on the train home and will hit a couple supermarkets when back in town. I may just take a nap when I get back in the house because I’m so tired! No matter what, a few loads of laundry need to be done, fridge cleaned out, toilets cleaned and a bit of work. We’ll also do a bit more planning for our trip to France too.

I have no clue about dinner though. Maybe some roasted chicken leg quarters, rice and salad as that should be easy enough. Have a good Saturday everyone!

Morning @lucysmam and all

Love these threads

I've been sick since sunday and only starting to feel a bit back to normal..literally the worst illness I have ever had.

So today, I am looking to do.jobs round the house with the teens. I had ordered an Asda delivery with lots.of donuts and cookies and cupcakes for a little " End Of Summer" party for all 6 of the kids, this evening after dinner. But Asda have just informed me by email, over half weren't available so instead when we go out tuesday for 3 different health appointments, they can go into Poundland and choose some things and we can have our party when we get back. A little treat for them. As they didn't have a good summer holidays. All have been very sick and each child of mine has been sick for a week or just over a week, so 5 out of 6 weeks of the summer holidays have been spent ill, vomiting and having diarrhoea.

And we only managed to get out twice! So im literally sat here browsing online to see what we can plan for at least the next 4 or 5 weekends to something with them, museums, picnics, maybe even a weekend to the beach. Looking at air bnb for all 8 of us is really a small fortune but would be nice to get away.

Tonight's dinner is firecracker chicken and mushroom with mixed veg rice and chips.

Have a lovely day all ❤️

AxolotlEars · 30/08/2025 11:53

Packing to go away. Preparing meals and cake. Last minute shopping. Unpacking a Tesco order. Picking up child from work.

The old chemist in old town is a lovely place to shop in Brid

zingally · 30/08/2025 12:12

Nothing much happening right now! I'm off at 4:30 to meet some work friends for a drink at 5pm. Then I'll do the food shop at Tesco on the way home. I rarely "do" Tesco these days, as I'm now on the other side of town. But I have a £2.50 clubcard voucher, and I'll be over that side of town anyway, so it makes sense.

BunnyLover7 · 30/08/2025 13:27

Good afternoon @lucysmam & the Saturday crew - that was a busy old morning! Awake since 5 again & took painkillers. DH brought me a cuppa in bed at about 7. He’s been working since 8 & due home in a bit. I did the dishwasher & put the washing machine on a drum clean before going out. Ended up being an epic trip & I was definitely not dressed for the weather! Started off driving 20 mins to Sainsbury’s to return some Tu clothing. Will actually be glad of the money as our financial situation is dire. Then Pets at Home for hay & straw, Asda for a smallish shop then finally Tescos as there were a couple of bits Asda didn’t have. DH has requested Pieminister pies for his birthday tea but Asda only had the chicken ones (he prefers steak). Asda wasn’t too bad but it was manic at Tescos. Everything is more stressful in the rain. I have wet feet now! Hate that feeling. Glad to get home for a cuppa. Popped some clothes in the tumbledryer. Invited to a fete this afternoon but not going because of the money situation. I bought some jewellery storage from Temu recently so think I might work on that & dust when I’ve shifted all my rings etc. DH says our room is like a museum with everything on display & he has a point! DD16 is stressing about her college induction, bus travel etc. I absolutely get her anxiety but it’s extreme so can be tricky to handle. Hopefully I can help her to sort everything so she doesn’t need to fret. Nice easy tea of scampi, chips & peas. Might find a film to watch & we have AF ciders in the fridge. Have a great day folks!

Good morning @lucysmam and followers, it’s a dull, dry but damp around the edges, morning here, we’re just having breakfast after taking the dogs out for a good hour. It’s quite muddy on the bridleway but the fields are ok.
I’m enjoying porridge with blueberries, I haven’t had porridge for months, just felt like it. A large mug of cafetière coffee and I’m happy!
The house is clean and tidy, I do have a bit of ironing to do, a Sainsbury’s shop is arriving around 11 and, as it’s supposed to rain all afternoon, I will probably do some more drawing and coloured pencil work later.
I’ve had a very frustrating couple of days trying to link my Bluetooth hearing aids to my new phone, more than once I’ve been reduced to tears of frustration! Eventually it was sorted yesterday, third trip into town in three days 🤬 to the phone shop.
I don’t have any idea what we’re eating today, I get really fed up with cooking, DH says it’s not his job 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 so, as of next week, I’m only cooking if I feel like it, he can sort out his own meals! I’m on strike!

Not his job?!! Have you told him to go back to the 1950s?!

Morning all. We have had a terrible week with a tragic death of DD best friend. She has come home for some TLC from her Mum (me!) so I plan to sit on the sofa next to her and wipe her tears. My Mum is here too for moral support. As wonderful as life is it is also brutal at times. Sorry it wasn't a happy post but there it is x

So sorry for your DD’s loss 💐

Crunchymum · 30/08/2025 15:01

Very late today.

Have managed SSS (Saturday Swimming Saga) and we've all had lunch. Bacon rolls all round.

The house is upside down but I'm planning to take care of it properly once the kids are back next week.

DC1 went out about an hour ago to meet friends (they'll go to the local park and then they've got cinema tickets booked for 4pm)

Me and DD's are are watching Fedinand but I need to clear the airers and hang the washing that's just finished.

Dinner will be spicy chicken in wraps with salad and halloumi.

Sending positive vibes to everyone, especially those struggling and / or poorly.

And yay to a brand new little human. How fantastic.

MadisonMarieParksValetta · 30/08/2025 16:03

Had a very lazy day at home. Very rainy outside so candles all lit. About to have a bubble bath and then ordering a huge Chinese takeaway later. Literal perfection.

Simonjt · 30/08/2025 16:27
