Self help book for a cynic

I saw some comments about the power of now but not sure if it's what I'm after

I'm a procrastinator with a ton of unhealthy bad habits and a negative attitude. Want to change but feel it's hardwired into me.

Would love some sort of enlightening book and I'm open minded to try something like this but I can't be doing with something that just talks about energy or some shit

Any recommendations? Would the power of now be right for me?

I came on to say 4,000 weeks too. It's about getting on and doing stuff, rather than waiting for things to be perfect. So, for example, if you want to start running you can wait until you've bought all the right gear, read a couple of books, done a training plan, or you could just try jogging from your front door. Equally, you want to lose some weight, you could buy diet books, a notepad, plan stuff, or you could just eat a little less that next meal.

It's much wider than that though, focusses on the fact that life is finite so you have to choose how you spend your time. It changed my life, I handed in my notice at work!

Oliver Burkeman used to write a column for the Guardian called "This column will change your life" which was also fairly cynical, so it may suit you.

Thanks got these two in my basket now. Any other recommendations?

I'm cynical and negative but not sure I want to be 🫤 something a little enlightening might be good but I've not bought into the airy fairy stuff yet so would need a gentle introduction

I want to become happy and wise.

I’ve just read ‘How to Keep House While Drowning’ by KC Davis, which has lots of ideas to help with procrastination. It’s not a long book and the author has a dry sense of humour that you may appreciate. Obviously it’s based around cleaning and organising, but is actually more about self care. The author knows about procrastination, being an ADHD sufferer herself.

I found this one very helpful. I have ADHD so terrible executive functioning and found it better than many books specifically aimed at people with ADHD. Must go back and re-read! Also another vote for How to Keep House While Drowning.
