Wtf were you doing with petrol in the bath?

AnnikaLowe · 29/08/2025 16:18

I don't understand.

Why did you have a can of petrol in the house?
Why were you using it or anywhere near a bath?

Do you mean you've spilt petrol down the plughole of your bath?

greengreyblue · 29/08/2025 16:20

Wash it away then.

That’s what she said.

Jaynejakie · 29/08/2025 16:21

Yes down the plughole the top came off I didn't know there was petrol in there. I just need to know what to do about putting lights on

The lights will be fine. Petrol gets spilt at petrol stations and people switch car ignitions on. Are you generally anxious?

Chemenger · 29/08/2025 16:22

How much petrol? Why on earth did you have it in the house?

tiredandunhappy · 29/08/2025 16:23

I think it depends on how much has spilt? Can you not wash it away?

greengreyblue · 29/08/2025 16:24

Open all the windows. Wash away to dilute with water and wipe , wipe all the surfaces it had contact with.

EchoedSilence · 29/08/2025 16:25

Just wash it away. I'm intrigued as to why you had a can of petrol in the bathroom though.

UnimatrixZeroOne · 29/08/2025 16:25

Are you for actual real? How have you made it to adulthood?

Not wish to worry the op but I know someone who died when there was large petrol spill in the commercial garage they worked in. No one knew the fuel was leaking and the shut the garage up and went for lunch. They came back and switching the light on caused the whole place to explode into flames.

But that was a whole car of petrol.

WilfredsPies · 29/08/2025 16:27

How much are we talking? And what were you doing with it in the bathroom?

Open the windows. But I don’t think you should use water. I don’t think the two mix. Mop as much as you can with kitchen roll, then mix up a soapy lather to clean it up.

I read online that you should not put lights on if petrol vapours are still in the air as the house could cause a fire so yes im worried

greengreyblue · 29/08/2025 16:27

From the sound of it the op was cleaning out a petrol can maybe and it had some left inside? Maybe. Just pour loads of water down the plug hole and wipe up and keep windows open until no smell.

greengreyblue · 29/08/2025 16:28

So ventilate!

Jaynejakie · 29/08/2025 16:28

I have washed it but more concerned about the vapours in the air incase it sets off a fire if any lights went on etc

OP posts:
greengreyblue · 29/08/2025 16:29

Windows open? The vapours will dissipate.

This is not going to happen!

greengreyblue · 29/08/2025 16:30

Just don’t switch lights on until clear of smells .

FatLarrysBanned · 29/08/2025 16:30

Open all the windows for a couple of hour, it'll be fine.

WilfredsPies · 29/08/2025 16:34

Have you got a fan? Shut the bathroom door, plug it in & turn it on, open the bathroom door and put the fan in the door way to help clear any remaining vapour.

And then calm down; it will be fine.

I doubt she’ll plug anything in.

Jaynejakie · 29/08/2025 16:44

It said online not to switch anything on so I don't know how long to wait before doing anything

Do you live alone? If not, whoever put petrol in a can and didn't tell you is a fool.

One poster suggests you were washing out the can. Not sure where she got that from. You'd smell the petrol the moment you took the cap off the can long before you added water to it or poured it down the plughole.

What did you think was in the can?
