Loaf sofas - does anyone like theirs?

LoafSofa · 29/08/2025 15:47

We’ve found a loaf sofa that we really like but looking at mumsnet it seems like Loaf sofas rank highly on people’s lists of regret and disappointment.

It is the Smithy sofa that we like.

If you have one and hate it / love it, why?

My friend has a loaf sofa and I find it really uncomfortable. We have the Joules Patterdale sofa from DFS which is quite a similar style to the photo you posted, it is the comfiest sofa we've ever had.

The patterdale does look nice but I’m wary of DFS and longevity. How long have you had your for?

I ADORE my Loaf Squishmeister sofa. I ordered it, then got panicked at reviews as you mention - but honestly it’s the comfiest thing I’ve ever laid on and guest always like to give it a go!

As the name says, it’s squishy. So if you want to sit bolt upright then maybe it’s not ideal - but for me, who likes to stretch out it’s ideal. Best sofa I’ve ever had

Me too and I love mine, so comfy.

We have a Loaf Pudding sofa, it looks beautiful and is reasonably comfortable but not as comfy as the one we sat in in the showroom - that seemed a lot squishier. Not sure I would buy another one, but I expect to have it a long time so it might see us out! The most comfortable sofa I’ve ever had is without doubt a Tetrad Grand Alicia - bought in 1996 and still fantastic, on its 2nd set of covers and could use new seat covers but worth every penny.

hmmnotreallysure · 29/08/2025 18:04

@LoafSofa we bought ours 4 years ago and it was ex display (we bought a 3 seater and a 2 seater for the price of one 3 seater), it's still in great condition (apart from some burn marks from the bloody open fire!!) still just as comfy and as long as I plump up the cushions and flip them every couple of months its still looking great.

Bonden · 29/08/2025 18:09

Hated mine. Got rid of it within 2 months

Kamek · 29/08/2025 18:21

I got given one by a neighbour who was moving and if was so awful we put it on freecycle. My 25+ year old multiyork and duresta sofas are still really comfortable. Loaf are all hype but without the build quality to justify the price imo

HeadingOutForJog · 29/08/2025 18:22

I’m very happy with my Loaf small corner sofa. It’s 4 years old and still looks good and is comfortable.

Fibrous · 29/08/2025 18:38

we love ours, I like curling up on it with the dogs. The low ness of it was not really something we noticed, although we're both pretty limber as do a lot of yoga so maybe that's why? although I'm pretty short, DP isn't. It needs plumping fairly regularly but we have to do that anyway to shake the dog hairs off the blankets etc.

honeyandbutterontoast · 29/08/2025 18:42

Mine is 8 years old now, still love it. The seat cushions have flattened a bit so I’ve put a folded duvet underneath. Still looks great. It’s the type with a chesterfield back though, they don’t do the design anymore.

Thisgrillisonfire · 29/08/2025 21:00

I didn’t think it was particularly expensive - more than basic DFS yeah, but then it’s a million times more comfy. I’m lounging out on it with a glass of wine right now!

Any Saturday morning opinions out there?

I like ours - we bought it about 6 months ago - had no issues with delivery or anything, its comfy, it looks good - I am not sure I have extreme expectations from a sofa though!

seratoninmoonbeams · 30/08/2025 09:01

The thing with DFS is they have lots of different sofas from lots of different suppliers so the quality varies massively. We have a 15 year old corner sofa from DFS. For DFS it was quite expensive but you could tell it was quality. We paid extra for different cushion ‘fillings’ and, as it was made in Italy, had to wait a while for it to be delivered. But it was worth it and still looks great. Nothing like what you’re looking at but, just saying, everything in DFS is completely different quality as you can tell by the huge price variations.

AlwaysInaRu5h · 26/09/2025 14:16

Having previously had sofas from Ikea, Made, Snug and John Lewis I can honestly say Loaf sofas are far more comfortable. Depending on the style you go for, we like deep and wide for movie watching, the comfort is another level. As with everything, what works for you might not work for someone else.

AlwaysInaRu5h · 08/10/2025 11:28

Previously had a gorgeous Loaf sofa, but moved house and had to sell it. Bought a Snug corner sofa, now regretting it. I would definitely buy another Loaf sofa - they are the most comfortable by far.

Vikingmama79 · 20/03/2026 16:23

@LoafSofa any developments ? came across your post as this the exact quandary we have, also really liked the same sofa and tried it in same store (along with 5 million others across the building) ! was all set to order then saw the reviews . Interested to know if you took the plunge ?

LoafSofa · 20/03/2026 16:47

We didn’t in the end. Went to a local store where we could get a similar but higher quality sofa. And then we rearranged the room and decided not to bother for another year or so.

We did buy some bar stools from them though and had no problems with anything.

A friend has them and I hate them. they are so deep. i am short, so I either have to perch on the edge or curl right up. I can never get comfortable on it.

user1471548941 · 20/03/2026 17:43

We had a similar dilemma and ended up going for Dunelm’s Martha Vintage for 1/3 of the price. We LOVE it, no regrets, it holds it’s shape, hardwearing fabric and delivery was fast and efficient.

lapsangsue · 21/03/2026 11:07

Our experience with Loaf was nightmare from beginning to end - well, actually the beginning was ok as showroom staff were lovely but downhill from that point. We ended up cancelling after having waited four months and twice being let down.
Their customer service is TERRIBLE. - suggest you look at trustpilot and disregard positive reviews from people that have bought mugs, commenting on visits to showrooms etc and focus on those reviewing sofas and their experiences.

dogonthefloor · 21/03/2026 11:23

I love mine! It's very low and deep so my elderly parents struggle to get up from them but for me they're perfect. Depends on your personal circumstances. I could've got taller legs but I love they're large and comfortable. Dog likes them too. I have a sofa and a love seat in the clever velvet.

dogonthefloor · 21/03/2026 11:24

Oh and I do have to plump up the cushions but I'd rather have big squishy seat cushions rather than square foam ones
