I've got quite a bit of stuff in my house stored in the loft that was ready for a bootsale been saving it up since last year pretty much just outgrown toys clothes books games home stuff and knick-knacks a few days ago I thought as it's end of season now I'm just going to charity a lot of it and put on vinted some of the stuff but now I'm actually going through it I'm changing my mind and it's stressing me to out

I have sold already a fair bit on vinted making about £50 so far so now im thinking shall I just keep it all again and try and get a bootsale done next year because maybe that's money i could generate for us. It genuinely bothers me when I go up into the loft and see it all there but it's also a bit of a pain uploading it all to vinted and Facebook

There's sooooo many books
I know it's silly to stress over but it does make me agitated

I can't be bothered with Vinted and eBay. As you say, it's a lot of hassle. The boot sale sounds like fun, but the key is to get some friends to help you . Do you have a big boot sale locally where you could hire a stall? Or did you mean do a garage sale? People do that here - have the stuff in your garage/ on the front lawn, put it on the local FB group and just let people turn up one afternoon.

Tbh I've just been taking everything to the charity shop now. I don't have much spare time, & I don't want to spend the time I have replying to vinted messages or going to the post office - & I'm on a deadline to clear out the spare room for baby #2s arrival.
I'm trying to see it as doing something good for charity as well as taking a weight off my shoulders, rather than regretting the "wasted" money.

Netcurtainnelly · 29/08/2025 15:05

I wouldn't bother myself nowadays.
Alot of people are just giving stuff away for free.
So many people have got so much stuff.
I'd probably take it to charity shops. Different ones.

"Tbh I've just been taking everything to the charity shop now. I don't have much spare time, & I don't want to spend the time I have replying to vinted messages or going to the post office"

This 100%. The sense of lightness after you take a carload to the charity shop is wonderful. It is a massive tick on your to-do list and the nagging irritation will vanish from now on.

Just get rid of of it and stop wringing your hands about whether to car boot or vinted or this or that.

I don't think boot sales do much now. Maybe I'm out of touch.

But I've made about £300 on Vinted in the last couple of weeks, just ruthlessly flogging stuff. I get a thrill out of selling that beats the thrill of buying so it's not too much of a chore for me though.

If you cba, absolutely just take it all to charity. Or even tip it. It's such a good feeling to declutter.

What's your local boot sale scene like? Maybe go along and chat to some sellers, that might help you decide.

When I did one I made about 20p over the pitch fee 😂

jumpingthehighjump · 29/08/2025 18:45

Hate boot sales.

Last time I did one, I had some really nice framed picture propped up against the table and some idiot let their dog wee all over them!

Dabberlocks · 29/08/2025 18:46

Books don't do all that well at car boot sales unless you are selling them really cheap, like 10p each or something.

Thanks all for your honest thoughts ye we don't have a huge great turn out for bootsales to be honest here last one we did 2 years ago and it rained we only made about £20 and I then sold loads on vinted Facebook and charity

I've actually put loads on vinted today and made about £50 and sold £25 odd on Facebook sites so not too bad I've got a bag for charity ready to go aswell
Stil got a few more boxes to go through tomorrow though trying to get it sorted before school starts back and I go back to work

I've definitely got a buzz from it though today I won't lie and I've got tons of reusable packaging so it's not costing me anything

I went to our local car boot sale last weekend thought it would be something to do with the kids, gave them £5 to buy a new toy or some books but it was all new stuff it was more like a market, I asked my neighbour about it when I got home and she said car boots have been like that for years! So I say go and see your local car boot first before you make a decision! (Cost 50p to enter too)

Grk · 29/08/2025 20:22

@Favouritefruits ye ours isnt like that it's a lot people selling their own belongings

For books, CD's and DVD's try World of Books or Music Magpie. If you have a smartphone you can download the app and use the camera to scan the barcode. You don't get paid a huge amount but its not much hassle, you just need a box big enough to post your items. They pay postage.
