First periods and heavy duty period shorts

Can I have recommendations for heavy duty but comfortable period shorts that can cope with flooding please?

DD(11) experienced terrible flooding this month (3rd period since starting) and the heavy-flow period pants she was using from Amazon (with a pad inside) were totally useless. Saying that, she did flood through 1.5 packs of night time pads in one morning..

I’m looking for some boxer short style pants that have the absorbency running down the inner thigh as well as back to front (bonus points for any that won’t bankrupt me!)

I’ve seen a lot of shorts but not sure if they have the absorbency down the inner thigh? I think this is where a lot of the leaking was happening from… possibly due to wearing a pad with them? or the volume of blood I’m not too sure..

thanks

I’m not sure about period pants but I can recommend incontinence pads - Aldi do some good ones. Much better than any normal pads I’ve ever tried and make you feel less like you’re constantly leaking. Game changer in this house!

My young sister uses m&s period pants, not sure what style they are but they’re the only ones my mum relies on for her

Lidl also have cheap thick incontinence pads, dry them. I wear with modibodi ultra absorbent shorts

Wuka super heavy.

Modibodi do a shorts style period pant for teens which come in super heavy and they always have offers on. It might be worth getting some of the Wuka or Modibodi ones just for nighttime for that bit of extra security.

My DD finds modibodi the most absorbent period knickers and they wash and last really well. This level of flooding seems excessive though, in your position I would contact the doctor. My DD also had prescribed tablets to lighten the flow. I hope she is ok, it’s a lot to deal with at her age

if she's definitely using the pads correctly in correctly fitting underwear, then take her to the doctor as this sounds excessive. Even if they refuse to do anything (likely) at least it's on her records if it gets worse.

We have the same issue, Op. I think it’s due to heavy and irregular first periods but also DD’s body shape. Having a pad in seems to make it worse as it seems to escape down the sides like you said. We have tried Wuka and Cheeky Pants but neither are great.
It is normal for it to be like this as first, as the body adjusts to having periods and it evens out to being over a few days instead of a couple of heavy days. I really, really wouldn’t recommend asking GP for meds that will just mess up her hormones. Make sure her school are aware so they can give her a toilet pass.
