What's your earliest sighting of Christmas-specific items in shops and supermakets?

For example, as of today, 27th of August, Morrisons already have assorted Christmas chocolates and sweets as well as Christmas puddings, etc in their 'Seasonal' aisle, both on shelves and those freestanding cardboard display stands. They weren't there a week ago.

I'm now waiting for the Easter Eggs to appear .......

The Range was setting up it's Christmas section last weekend

sparebooks · 27/08/2025 23:23

Our local garden centre has already cleared a suspiciously large gap in the area where outdoor furniture has been located for the past few months. As of today there was a lonely shelf of Christmas cards placed to one side there, by the wall. Just waiting for the rest..

25th August, Bank Holiday Monday - Christmas chocolates and mince pies in Morrisons. Right at the front of the store .Could not believe it!
The thing is, supermarkets only sell it now as there's a market for it. At the very least, they could hide it away at the back of the store for another 2 months!

I saw an advent calendar in John Lewis yesterday

crackofdoom · 27/08/2025 23:33

B&M bargains had giant Christmas stockings and the like on display on Saturday, as the August sun was cracking the flags outside 🙄.

SpottyAardvark · 27/08/2025 23:33

I saw mince pies in Sainsbury’s last weekend. The temperature outside was 27C. 🙄

Supermarkets now stock the plastic tubs of Roses, Quality St, Celebrations etc all year round so they don’t count as Christmas stock any more.

Smallinthesmoke · 27/08/2025 23:36

Boots today had Christmassy gift packs of shower gels etc. - at a very expensive price (so presumably they can market it soon as half-price and it looks like a bargain...).

Dabberlocks · 27/08/2025 23:37

I saw a few odds and ends in my local B&M yesterday. Christmassy mugs with initials on and some other bits. I didn't linger.😂

Nothing yet- just everything Halloween so far!

last year, I saw Easter eggs in December which was insane

sesquipedalian · 27/08/2025 23:42

My daughter sent a photo last week of Maltesers Reindeer in her local supermarket. Madness. Soon it will be mince pies that have sell-by dates way before December.

mondaytosunday · 27/08/2025 23:44

Not in shops yet but loads online starting a few weeks ago - I’ve just been checking out advent calendars…

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 27/08/2025 23:46

I remember where I used to work, that immediately after the late Bank Holiday Monday Christmas stuff would go out on the shelves.

Not at work this week, but I expect when I go back on Monday that there will be Christmas items in ASDA...

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells swing and jingle bells ring
Snowin' and blowin' up bushels of fun
Now the jingle hop has begun

Stop the world l want to get off.

Have gone away for Christmas on holiday for over 30 years. Can be very expensive but worth every penny piece to get away from the UK and what Chritmas has become

Poor health for the past two years but hopefully this Xmas I'm off to sunny Spain for Christmas and New Year.

Viva Espana
🤞⛄🌞🇪🇸

Felice Navidad

Two or three of the local charity shops have had cards out for a few weeks. One has a shelf near the door with Christmas knickknacks.

I did hear that a garden centre nearby was starting to clear the large area which they use but I haven't been myself.

I dislike Christmas more and more each year, partly due to it being a retail and landfill fest. I do my very best to avoid it all except the most laid back family get togethers.

OldYorkMum · 28/08/2025 22:23

QS tubs in Aldi today, and Tesco had a large display of Xmas sweets and chocolate.

olderbutwiser · 28/08/2025 22:35

I bought and ate my first mince pie yesterday. Yum!

MouldyCandy · 29/08/2025 00:03

The Works had Christmas crafts and stickers - alongside the Hallowe'en section.

I've always intensely disliked the crass commercialization of Christmas, but if you can ignore/avoid that it's pretty magical. I particularly love seeing all of the decorations that adorn streets, shops and people's homes at Christmas, all of which bring some beauty and joy to the darkest depths of winter (although I draw the line at madly flashing stroboscopic lights and obnoxiously large inflatable snowmen and the like!).

Christmas trees in Costco.
I hate this. Can we at least get Halloween out of the way first.
