Anyone else with a Next sofa that stinks?

Purchased a sofa and armchair (Stamford) in summer 2023. For the last 6 months to a year the room has smelt strongly of garlic/onion. Just contacted Next but has anyone else had this problem and have you managed to get a refund?

Hi Emilylou
I don’t contact them in the end.
I put a bowl of distilled 5% white vinegar by the chair which worked. I find it gets a bit smelly when it gets hot but so much better - and only occasional

That’s really odd. My friend has a new next sofa and his living room
smells the same! He can’t smell it but I can.

His is the Stamford one as well.

This is very interesting. We bought 2 next sofas about 18 months ago. All good, really like them. But,if the room has been closed overnight,or if it gets v warm (room faces south with big windows) it stinks of onions. We wondered what on earth was causing it. Now we know.

Please can I ask how successful you were with next?
I'm not confident ha.

We thankfully got a full refund.

We have the sane issue, not Stamford though. It's definitely 'thing'. There are posts on other sites about it - always garlic smell Not sure if anyone has managed to cure it but a few people have said they have got refunds. Waiting for a technician to come to see/smell ours next week!

If you have a stinky sofa from next

Toddlerteaplease · 24/07/2026 15:39

My friends sofa still stinks.

Us too! Next are selling us all sofas/chairs not fit for purpose. Oh! as for your 15yr guarantee , well you can forget about that. They’ll send an “independent “ technician out to assess the situation, but they will come back to you claiming it’s not a manufacturer fault because, apparently ,we all cook and eat in our living rooms ( get out clause really) all I know is, it can’t be good for anyone! Especially with ongoing medical conditions!!!! And they seem to be getting away with this. House is rotten with garlic since we purchased it and getting worse by the day . I have removed said item from my living room and intend to contact consumer protection for further advice under health and safety.

StarieNight , going by other customers reporting the same issues, I would think it more than likely is.

You just need to push for a refund. We did and not a problem
