Armpit cyst

I’ve got a cyst in my armpit and it’s been growing over the last dew years. Started as a pea and now is towards a small marble and it’s quite visible.

if they need to remove it (it’s annoying and I catch it on my bra or when shavint and it’s painful if I don’t position my bra right) will they do that under general anaesthetic or local? Or will they just continue to leave it? I showed it to a paramedic at the gp surgery a couple of years back and they said something about removal but I’ve just been ignoring it. Now it’s so big I want it gone but the idea of it being removed and stitched under local fills me up with dread.

Because you have lots of lymph nodes in that area, you need to go to the Gp and let them decide what to do with it. It may need a needle biopsy under ultrasound to see what it is…

Well if it’s cancerous I’m screwed as I’ve had it a long time. It’s mobile and just under the skin, they haven’t ever biopsied or scanned anything though and I’m a little too young for a mammogram. Urgh I guess I’ll try and have an FNA / biopsy done. It’s annoying me now. And there is that tiny niggle about location and tumours.

Please get it checked.

I will, I have had it looked at it the past and they didn’t do anything or send me to breast clinic as they were sure it was just a cyst. I do check what little saggy mess I have in my bra and never found anything else.

I might use my bupa and get then to do a mammogram etc just to be on the safe side.

Id get it checked out by a dr OP, for piece of mind if nothing else. A lump appeared on my collarbone early this year - i went to the GP and was referred for a scan. I hadnt heard anything for 3 months so called for an eta for the scan. I was told they are working on a timescale of 64 weeks...so if you can afford to go private, do!

unsync · 27/08/2025 23:04

If you have BUPA, just get a referral from GP. It will save you angst and you will get it sorted out much quicker.

Wallawallakoala · 27/08/2025 23:07

Have they given you antibiotics for it? I had one that sounds exactly the same and sometimes it would be inflamed but eventually it just went back down to a pea. Sounds weird but I was using charcoal bar soap on it and that really helped! They can definitely remove it under local but it needs packing. Mine now is like a spot that fills up every so often… sorry!

Wallawallakoala · 27/08/2025 23:08

Mine has been there for maybe 15 years, never had a scan on it but the drs said it was a cyst because it was moveable etc

Willquery123 · 27/08/2025 23:21

I used to get these when I was very stressed.

Like pp, they went (either reduced or popped).

FurForksSake · 28/08/2025 00:00

This has been there I reckon five years and has grown. I think it did go for a bit but is much bigger now than ever.

the idea of having it removed and packed under local gives me the colly wobbles.

Hi. I had a cyst in my arm pit years ago. I had picked at my arm pit in the first place to cause the cyst so it was completely my own fault. I ignored it and it got massive and painful over the course of a few weeks, so much so I had to go to a&e. They admitted me and I ended up under local anaesthetic that night having it drained / removed! It had to be packed from the inside which I have to admit was extremely painful. Was in hospital about 2 nights. I even had to have stitches in it which were removed weeks later. Horrible experience but I’m so glad I didn’t leave it to get any worse. I would definitely recommend you get it checked especially as it’s grown. Good luck

FurForksSake · 28/08/2025 16:46

Well that doesn’t sound much fun! I wonder if I can smash it with a book like a ganglion?

I had one years ago that was oozing and horrible, I had it lanced and drained under local anaesthetic. I was a student in France at the time and remember having to look up the word “ooze” (suivre) ahead of going to the doctor…

FurForksSake · 28/08/2025 17:49

Again, sounds awful! I think I’ll draw a face on it and call it Bob, it can be my new pet.

I've had a similar one for years. Two doctors have told me that it's nothing and that they won't remove it.

FurForksSake · 28/08/2025 19:06

i Might get bupa to have a look at it, I understand the nhs have less and less resources. But it does nag at the back of my mind that I’m nearly 43 and have this “cyst” that could be not a cyst.

im back to considering smacking it with a book and drawing a face on it.
