Dental Implants.

Hi wise Munsnetters. I am after some advice RE dental implants. My husband was seriously ill several years ago. He required 5 cycles of extremely high dose steroids. These caused his teeth to crumble and as a result is know looking for a full set of dental implants. Can anyone recommend a reputable UK clinic that is not too pricey. Our hometown is very expensive so we have looked at Brighton, Dentaprime, EVO dental. I would be most grateful to hear from anyone who has had procedure done in the UK and their experiences TIA. It will make a massive difference to his eating and confidence.

I understand what you mean but I think it would depend on other factors - amount of gum/bone and density etc. I just recommended Dr. Searson as I have been going to him for over 15 years and he will come up with a complete plan but, longer term, he just reviews and knows when to leave alone. In other words it cost a LOT at first but has been minimal over the years. Google him, he’s great.

I will, thanks again.

Thanks for this. Would you know if a single post would fit a double tooth (like the ones at the back)? I’m probably not explaining myself very well.

it depends on depth and quality of the bone and angle of the implant, but in general you can put two teeth on one implant but you dont tend to do it right at the back of the mouth as these are implants are under the most stress from the bite there.

Loving all this chat as I only hoped for one or two responses. It seems we are not alone. Also previously people used to go overseas, so from an aftercare point of view great to see people choosing GB!!

Thanks. Gah, that’s the gap I need to fill. I had the double removed a year ago and it’s awful only being able to eat on one side. Of course, there’s the dread of the other side causing problems now too.

So glad I discovered this thread. I have needed an implant - single tooth for around 6 years and have had 3d scan etc twice but kept chickening out as the prosthodontist is quite intimidating! I need a sinus lift and am scared of the after effects of this. It’s a lot of money also- £4,500 and so I think a second opinion would be good. Might check out the recommendations here. Has anyone had a sinus lift?

P.S they did a sinus left on one of mine, basically if the bone is too damaged or porous for the implant they pack that area with powdered bone and wait for it to regenerate before putting the implant it otherwise it would wobble.
They do it surgically for really bad cases or inject it in for moderate cases.

ThatGlimmeringSea · 29/08/2025 16:38

Where does the powdered bone come from?

Mine was human cadaver but they come from cows also.

Gross, when you think about it.

You can also apparently get vegan implants.

Really? Im vegetarian so I chose human as a compromise. At least that person chose to donate their bone. Any idea what they use for the vegan one?

Coral. On the first page.

How interesting. I never knew 😯

Highly recommend The Implant Centre, their branch at Haywards Heath is close to the station and parking is easier than Brighton. Lovely surgeons and staff. Quite a long process, I had one 8yrs ago and it took about six months from start to finish.

Me neither. I never fail to be amazed at the solutions they come up with to patch our broken bodies!

ShoeeMcfee · 29/08/2025 18:04

I once asked my dental implant surgeon who on earth would donate their bones for implants. He looked a bit vague and said 'prisoners'. Sorry if that's TMI. Anyway, my implants have been brilliant although as someone said, it's quite a long process.

‘Looked a bit vague…’. 🤣.

It is artificial based on coral.

Hedjwitch · 29/08/2025 20:59

Oooh,I don't like the bone idea. Although it makes perfect sense I suppose.

Me neither but I’m pretty sure I could convince myself for a full set of teeth again!

SmallChild · 29/08/2025 22:55

Has anyone had recent experience with Dentaprime in London as thinking of that. All opinions welcomed. Thank you, so much wise MNetters.

DH is not vegan nor vegetarian so very unlikely to be bothered by the source of the bone. Rather looking for the best price at a reputable clinic.

I am in the middle of implant treatment with the Brighton Implant Centre. I can’t comment yet on the finished result, my implants are in and I am waiting for the bone to grow around them for the next step- but so far I am very happy. The staff at the clinic are so friendly and reassuring (I was very nervous) I also am going to the Hailsham branch as it is closer to me and I would highly recommend them.

Good luck to your husband for his treatment

How much pain is there involved?

Dottydoodoo · 01/09/2025 09:14

@PiggingBastardPigsthere was some pain, but nothing that wasn’t fixed with paracetamol and ibuprofen. The worst was in the evenings for about a week after, it would get a bit throbby where the implants were sited but paracetamol was enough. The worst thing for me was the swelling. I had two extractions and the implants inserted at the same time so I was ridiculously swollen! It took a couple of weeks to be able to wear the temporary denture that I have been given because of how swollen my gums were, but they weren’t painful as such.

kallanmiles · 27/11/2025 11:26

Hi there, I completely understand your situation, my partner had something similar after a serious illness and steroid treatment, and it was tough watching their confidence take a hit. From my experience, the key is to go somewhere that specialises in implants full time rather than just offering them as an add-on service.

One clinic I can recommend is Burwood Diamond Dental. They have a very thorough assessment process, use up-to-date technology, and their team works closely with skilled dental technicians. My partner had a full arch done there, and the results were fantastic much more natural and comfortable than we expected. They were upfront about costs, which helped us budget without cutting corners.

It might be worth booking a consultation to discuss options and get a tailored plan. Even if it’s a bit of travel, the peace of mind and quality of care can make a huge difference.
