Greggs, how does a conversation like this come about?

Earlier I was sat outside Greggs with a friend, a bacon sandwich and a cup of tea.

I little boy, maybe 5yo, came out with his Dad. Boy was clutching one of those little fruit pots and Dad had a cup.

The boy was saying "Daddy, why do you always want coffee, it's not healthy, why can't you drink water?".

It amused me because friend and I were nursing hangovers and discussing the drinking habits of the people we were out with yesterday. They boy could have a parent so much worse! I wonder where such a small child gets these concerns from though. It's good I suppose to have an awareness, but not good that a (c.) 5yo is worried about it?

Who says coffee is unhealthy? It’s fine. A sugary frappe maybe not, but there nothing wrong with coffee. I hope the Dad asked him where did he hear that and put him straight. And as to where he actually heard it? Another adult or TV.

Dad didn't seem to respond at all, but I was only eavesdropping!

Nothing, except that's where it took place?

Child is probably parroting what the mum has been saying.

Parents who obsess over food in some way or another tend to pass that obsession on to their children. I feel sorry for the poor kid.
