I’m on therapy and feeling sorry for myself. However I’ve been to the Turkish shop and have loads of picky bits so, what shall I watch? Nothing too violent as I’m quite sensitive. I’ve done all the obvious tv The Sopranos etc. I haven’t done the shield though.

I’ve just finished The Guilded Age which isn’t my type of thing at all so I’m wondering what’s Downton Abbey like.

i enjoy true crime and have just watched the preppy murderer. I’ve also seen most of them.

ive done Ginny and Georgia and Below Deck.

im running out of ideas!

or a good comedy film?

LOVE downtown hated the Gilded Age. Elsbeth is a good US light crime drama if that makes sense ? I’m going to start the veil this afternoon no idea how violent it is though

Flamingmentalcats · 25/08/2025 13:24

Hostage on Netflix, watch it on Saturday it was very good

I’ve been powering through The Summer I Turned Pretty on Amazon. It’s pretty cringe but addictive.

We have become oddly addicted to Blue Bloods on channel 5. Tom Selleck is rather comforting in it!!! Big bang is so good as well and a very easy watch.

lovethenights · 25/08/2025 14:04

You could watch the rabbit proof fence.
Or the thai film beautiful run.

cadburygorilla · 25/08/2025 14:19

Downton Abbey is the best!! It’s basically a hisotical soap. Definitely a good choice if you want a comfort watch. The only TW I’d put is the death of the Turkish visitor and Lady Sybil; it’s all gentle otherwise

FrodoBiggins · 25/08/2025 14:22

Elementary (modern Sherlock Holmes adaptation set in New York) is v entertaining, good if you like crime/detective stuff, not too heavy, and loads of episodes so if you like it you can binge away. Also stars the gorgeous Jonny Lee Miller (or the equally gorgeous Lucy Liu if she's more your type).

Hope you have a nice restful day!

Maybe delete the massive spoilers in case she does actually decide to watch it? 😂

She said "not too violent" not "I can't even hear a reference to death" btw. Given that age likes true crime I think she can manage

TuesdaysAreBest · 27/08/2025 11:13

The Shield is fantastic

DrRichardWebber · 27/08/2025 11:52

I would do Greys Anatomy or The Crown. So jealous!

cocktails4two · 27/08/2025 12:01

This is Us is a lovely watch. Can be quite emotional though.

placemats · 27/08/2025 12:06

I'm currently up to date watching Miss Marple BBC 4 and iPlayer - Joan Hickson as Marple. Wonderfully nostalgic.

EachandEveryone · 27/08/2025 16:19

I’ve done Greys stopped halfway through.this is us is far too emotional you are right.

Downton Abbey is total schlock and wastes an excellent cast on a wan script and a frankly hilarious 'the aristocrats are just like us, really, gawd love them -- hearts of gold, every one' message. If you've seen Gosford Park, imagine it without the sharpness of the writing and characterisation, and the raft of frankly awful characters above and below stairs.

I'd watch all of The Split.

unicornsarereal72 · 27/08/2025 16:27

Hostage. I’ve just watched this yesterday on Netflix. Only 5 episodes so not to demanding.

pinkbackground · 27/08/2025 16:28

Another vote for Downton

EachandEveryone · 27/08/2025 17:51

I loved The Split. What was that Yorkshire show she was it? I’ve never seen that.

OP if you enjoyed The Gilded Age I think you’ll love Downton. I didn’t think I was into period dramas of any kind but watched The Gilded Age out of interest because I like the cast and the era. I adored it so tentatively tried Downton which I’d say is in the top 10 things I’ve ever watched. I wish I could erase it from my memory and watch it again.

Last Tango In Halifax?
Happy Valley
Person Of Interest
Criminal Minds
The last 2 have lots of episodes & seasons - there's a thread running through the episodes, but also don't need full concentration to follow.
Another vote for Elementary with Jonny Lee Miller

Cyclistmumgrandma · 27/08/2025 18:09

A Place to Call Home. Post war Australian drama.

Ahsheeit · 27/08/2025 18:26

I've been watching The Bill right from the start on U. 1984, now up to 2004. Forgot just how good the car and the writing was, and a great journey through social history.

JackJarvisEsq · 27/08/2025 18:27

i think for a nice easy watch you can’t beat Brooklyn 99

ShouldHaveCouldHaveWouldHaveDone · 27/08/2025 18:30

The Residence on Netflix. I binge watched the whole series in a few days. Very well done, but quite light lighthearted (as in not gruesome or scary) murder mystery.
Death and other details on ITVX is another that I’m enjoying.

OfKitten · 27/08/2025 18:35

what about Gilmore girls?

CrackingOn50 · 27/08/2025 18:44

I've just finished Harlem on Amazon.

I'm wanting low anxiety telly at the moment although also binged the last True Detective series too.

Hacks is great and I like the daft yet enjoyableness of The Rookie.
