Can you get away with not paying a court fine if you say you have no income or assets?

Saw a newspaper article today which got me thinking. https://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/news/25411751.arrogant-newport-woman-pay-116k-chopping-tree/
house wife gets 116k fine for chopping down a tree, says she relies on her rich business man husband. Did they think if they said she was responsible for arranging the felling the fine would be less than if he was prosecuted? What if the house/assets are in his name and she says she has nothing?

I know standard protocol is if you don’t pay a fine the baliffs come round. A neighbour had this recently, but his house is in his mums name and he said everything in the house belongs to her so the bailiffs left with nothing. Not sure if that’s the end of it for him.

Non-payment of court fines is a criminal offence so you’ll be brought back before the court. They do give you several chances but in the end if you don’t pay it you’ll be jailed, especially for such a high level of fine.

No.

court usually make you pay it on a payment plan even if you have no income or assets.

they’ll take it out of benefits as well I believe.
