How to clean baby high chair without antibacterial wipes?

Was using antibacterial wipes to clean the high chair tray now food has been eating off it, but then was wiping with water afterwards. Have realised they are not designed for food surfaces and this is dangerous. Any safe wipes to use? Putting in the dishwasher or bowl each time isn’t feasible and don’t want to make them ill with not cleaning the food properly afterwards.

Hot soapy water and a dish cloth.

BeltaLodaLife · 24/08/2025 11:34

Is this for real? Have you heard of soap and water?

unsync · 24/08/2025 11:50

In the days before plastic wipes, my mother would use a hot soapy cloth and then rinse and dry with a clean cloth. The same went for us when we needed cleaning.

Wipes are appallingly bad for the environment (alongside disposable nappies). If you've ever done a beach or river clean, you'd know this.

So many times I did this with spag bol😅 it saves a whole lot of faffing

Or stick it outside if you have outside space, and sluice it with a bucket or hose.

This. Nothing more is needed

Old fashioned ways are the best ways.

Aldilidl · 24/08/2025 15:46

all I ever used was hot soapy water and a cloth or a spray with cleaning spray and wipe with a cloth.

occasionally took the tray off and stuck it through the dishwasher.

all of mine survived.

Cloth and anti bac spray if home. If out and about I used to carry a pack of Milton wipes because DC would always decide to tip half their food onto the table rather than have it on a plate

Aldilidl · 24/08/2025 15:51

If I was out and about I just wiped the tray with the wet baby wipes I had (really just flannels in a spot of baby wash in a ziplock bag) and then dry with one of the dry flannels I also had with me.

I don’t like using wipes for everything - not that I was particularly environmental but they were expensive. I also had dc in Terry nappies for the same reason. I used an occasional disposable but preferred terries for the cost benefits!

GreenAndWhiteStripes · 24/08/2025 15:54

Wipes are terrible for the environment. Just use a cloth.

Mew2 · 24/08/2025 15:56

I used the Milton spray- I now use it for yucky cat sick.... Or on a hot day I would spray the high chair down with a hose.....

SErunner · 24/08/2025 16:02

Please don’t use wipes, for anything. Cloth and hot soapy water.
