Advice on super king size beds

Where would you recommend buying?

This was going to be a bit of a treat purchase that we’ve wanted for a while. I expected it would be £1000-2000 especially with bed, mattress, sheets, topper, protectors, duvet etc. We aren’t looking for anything fancy but we like wood or painted wood Cotswold co style, not metal or fabric, don’t need drawers or ottoman. Though it’s tempting to not have to hoover underneath.

DH has seen that Argos are selling painted wood beds for £250. The pictures are very nice but some of the reviews of the build quality are poor. We’ve had some nice furniture from them before though. I’d be fine to go with IKEA but the super king size beds are so minimalist and plain in style. Will also look at chains, independents and outlets but where else is a reliable place to buy? I would definitely want a good quality mattress so don’t want to skimp there.

Any thoughts or advice?

To a degree you get what you pay for but I don't think you need to spend the Earth. Our bed is a four poster from Baker & Stonehouse for under £1000 and an Emma mattress. Both lovely.

Recommended brands would be welcome too.

Also we have a ND child - we will dissuade them from jumping on the bed but may have to accept that it may happen and to get something appropriate. (Divan maybe but I don’t love them.)

Superking mattress plus bedding etc is very heavy! I’d be worried that anything that relies on being bolted together / slats etc would need to be pretty pricey to be durable enough.

We got a very neutral divan but then splashed on a super expensive gorgeous wooden headboard. Storage is great, no hoovering and im
never worried about it breaking

A colleague bought them from John Lewis. At the time, they offered a X amount of nights guarantee if she didn't like it, they could return it. (I think just for the mattress though).

I've recently done a fair bit of reading about beds/sizes etc as need a new bed ourselves post renovations. Ignore if you know all this already. I want it flush with the floor for drawers, but also have a dog that LOVES to hide balls under sofas/beds! I also want wood, but without a foot board. DH is tall and his feet might bang into it if he stretched out. I did see a few frames at Oak Furniture warehouse, but am yet to physically see them.

Have you thoroughly measured your room? We put down a rug which was almost the same size as the bed, then measured what size side tables we could fit- without having to shuffle sideways into bed along a wall! Also consider the max size of your stairs if its going up stairs. Also look at those zip and link beds, because the mattresses are much easier to manoeouver.

Youll either need a rolled and packed mattress or some very, very strong helpers. Don't underestimate just how heavy a SK mattress is. Especially having to drag it upstairs.

Also dont underestimate how much of a PITA it is to put a duvet cover on a SK duvet. Although this might have a lot to do with the fact that I have a wool duvet doing the duvet cover is a DH and I job.
