Carrie

Noseprawns · 23/08/2025 13:31

So many…..
I love Tommyknockers but think it’s similar to Needful things in that it is in his “small town where weird shit goes down” sub genre. But then again so is Salems Lot and It.
Cujo is brilliant, your heart will be pounding the entire time and you will not be able
to put it down
Carrie is….. it’s so intense and different and horrifying. It’s brilliant but a lot.
Bag of Bones is a bit more straightforwardly scary
Dr Sleep is a follow up to The Shining

When you’re ready, start on his Dark Tower series. It ties all his works together.

LividSquidward · 23/08/2025 13:31

Misery.

I'm jealous of you having all these great books still to read!

SomebodySedateMee · 23/08/2025 13:55

Firestarter is a great read

The long walk,
rose madder,
desperation
Christine
billy summers
i likes his mr Mercedes and Holly Gibney books!

SparklyGlitterballs · 23/08/2025 14:04

The Green Mile - one of my two faves by SK (11.22.63 being the other). I've read the Green Mile once but watched the film adaptation numerous times.

I recently read Holly, which was really good too.

NannyR · 23/08/2025 14:06

I really enjoy reading his short story collections.
Also, The girl who loved Tom Gordon

FrodisCapering · 23/08/2025 14:06

The Dark Half

DevilsIvyy · 23/08/2025 14:10

The Long Walk.

Darragon · 23/08/2025 14:11

Why have 2 posters so far mentioned a book that was already in the OP?!
Have you read Carrie OP?

Absolutely second this. Book and film both mesmerising.

My favourites are Bag of Bones, Duma Key and Under the Dome. The Mr Mercedes trilogy is also great.

Toastie7 · 23/08/2025 16:48

Firestarter is very good and hard to get the characters out of your head when you have finished it, even if you have read it before. It's difficult to know what to read of his next.

NannyR · 23/08/2025 16:49

Oh yes, Duma Key is brilliant.

DoublePoppy · 23/08/2025 21:03

I’ve started Skeleton Crew and will then try Bag of Bones and Tommyknockers I think.

Thank you!

The Dead Zone. I love that book so much!!

BB49 · 23/08/2025 22:40

The Institute is fantastic. Love all of them though, the Stand is the best. Second best the Talisman.

Ddakji · 23/08/2025 22:42

Nothing is as frightening as Salem’s Lot.

Christine was one of the first I read. Very good - he’s excellent at writing teenagers.

I also enjoyed Cujo though it’s really very sad.

Haven’t read much of his stuff from the last 20 years so can’t comment there.
