The sport of kings: Mornington Crescent

Good morning, all. What better way to begin the long weekend than a new game of the ineffable Mornington Crescent? All are welcome - veterans and newbies alike.

To set the tone, I will start with one of my favourite moves - a double shunt to

Kew Gardens

Lighting out for the territory while feeling totally outclassed.
Uxbridge

LlynTegid · 20/04/2026 17:26

No one is ever outclassed when moving to a part of Metroland.

Eastcote.

LittleBitofBread · 20/04/2026 17:39

Ooh, that's knotty, Llyn.
I'm being a bit careful here (mindful of the potential for Snorrings):
Grange Hill

TragicMuse · 21/04/2026 11:02

Steady…

Great Portland Street

LlynTegid · 22/04/2026 09:25

The walking rule has to be invoked given the strike today. Only a short one though, to Regents Park.

Vaguelyclassical · 22/04/2026 16:16

Keeping it modest while doing some consumer therapy.
Bond Street.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/04/2026 11:19

Oh no. Are we stuck again? Bond Street can have that effect on people. Let’s go wild:

Gidea Park

OP posts:
outdooryone · 27/04/2026 16:20

Whoah, never seen or heard of Gidea Park. I have had to read up on the rules, and I interpret Monday + Gidea Park as being a legal reverse move. That means I can nominate a DLR for once - Mudchute

LlynTegid · 28/04/2026 06:41

Island Gardens DLR for a short move.

TragicMuse · 28/04/2026 11:28

Yes but…

Aldgate.

LittleBitofBread · 28/04/2026 11:33

I remember a contretemps about Gidea Park at the spring concord once (Ottery St Mary, 2006). There were recriminations and some fairly wild accusations. Luckily, the arrival of the vicar's wife's pavlova diverted and diffused things enough for proceedings to continue, but to this day I can't quite face a passion fruit.
This is a little messy, especially compared to Muse's neat little corner, but I'll call an Outside Herschel to take us to Stepney Green

Vaguelyclassical · 29/04/2026 16:38

I am so glad that we have recovered from Bond Street. I do apologize. A Schrödinger's Catapult to
Monument.

LlynTegid · 29/04/2026 17:58

Temple for a walk by the river.

How that did not make the Daily Mail, particularly when Rees-Mogg was accused of a cover up I will never know.

Kings Cross St Pancras

TragicMuse · 01/05/2026 19:00

Oh. OH! I have it!

Stanmore.

How delicious!

LittleBitofBread · 01/05/2026 19:35

Oh, Muse, I thought you were going the other way and was about to gently remind you of the Spring 2017 Accordance, specifically the edict that issued from the Peterborough weekend. I shouldn't have doubted you.
I'll just pipe down. Apart from saying Gants Hill

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 02/05/2026 09:34

The spring concord is often a, let us say, inspiring event. Once the maitre d’ breaks out the absinthe cocktails it gets very lively and the all-night challenge rounds are a lot of fun. Don’t ask me how I know.

But enough of that reverie. On we go to

Arsenal

OP posts:
Vaguelyclassical · 02/05/2026 14:34

Somehow Arsenal and absinthe have an exquisite congruence. I am inspired.
Cockfosters

TragicMuse · 02/05/2026 16:40

The sun has appeared, so cheering when one likes a healthy stomp across the Heath.

While the authors of the Spring 2017 Accordance were, as tradition dictates, anonymous, I have heard it said that a sister of Terpsichore might have been involved… 🤫

Covent Garden.

VegimalCrudite · 02/05/2026 21:31

If we are playing markets -so 1980s- then I move to

Romford

in a graceful arc from the Gidea Park play a few goes back.

Beautiful.

LittleBitofBread · 04/05/2026 11:28

Oh, this is lovely, everyone.
I can only offer a humble Fotherington to Chingford
It will keep us away from that DuFresne Corner that was potentially looming, though.

TragicMuse · 04/05/2026 11:54

Neat, as always, @LittleBitofBread but with your signature flare and elan!

I have received word that gates are westward which means I have a decision to make. I know what His Eminence would do, am I persuaded to follow his wise counsel?

Why, yes! I am!

Bond Street. On the Elizabeth Line, obvs.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 04/05/2026 14:14

Hey ho. A bank holiday excursion to

Balham

OP posts:
LlynTegid · 04/05/2026 19:16

And given that this is a bank holiday that started life as one for the workers, we should remember a certain popular front and so move to Tooting Broadway.

LittleBitofBread · 05/05/2026 08:56

Seven Sisters, in that case, allowable if I double up my Atkinsons.
