The sport of kings: Mornington Crescent

Good morning, all. What better way to begin the long weekend than a new game of the ineffable Mornington Crescent? All are welcome - veterans and newbies alike.

To set the tone, I will start with one of my favourite moves - a double shunt to

Kew Gardens

You are huffed @HazelBite , terribly sorry old chap but them’s the rules.

Laterally, avoiding non working lifts, to Battersea Power Station

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/10/2025 10:12

Very wise, HazelBite. Very wise indeed. As, I hope, is my downward shuffle to

Kensington High Street

Possibly the best MC memoir is that of the old Admiral, published in the 80s some time if I remember rightly (after, let's say, it became politically possible for him to do so). if you haven't read it, it contains quite jaw-dropping details about the conference in Tortuga in '73 where the board ratified the Non-Denominational Principle of Munff as well as other less formal shenanigans
He also explains his thinking in the application of DeMornay's Theorem to the Circle Line, which has inspired and informed my next move:
Stepney Green

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/10/2025 12:59

How timely that you should mention the Admiral, LittleBitofBread. I happened to visit him in his nursing home last week. His memory of some matters is (how can I put this diplomatically?) a little quixotic, but in matters pertaining to the game of games he is still as sharp as a tack. As you say, when it comes to DeMornay, nobody does it better, and he soon had me in Nidd on the Northern Line.

I'd better stick to the Windrush line to avoid ending up in Nidd. So a move to Highbury and Islington.

LittleBitofBread · 10/10/2025 17:19

I'm pleased to hear of the Admiral's ongoing good health, Maud. I do know what you mean; on Northampton 2004 he has always been a little colourful, if entertaining. Mind you, no one who was there will ever look at a roast duck or a jug of orange sauce in quite the same way again.

Onwards! I'll tick off my Walberswick Obligation with a double to Westminster

Edited for typos

Bringing it down to earth, I always felt the title of Grand Duke was a little ironic. But who knows?

A reverse nightjar to Marble Arch

CaveMum · 11/10/2025 12:00

A reverse nightjar when the moon is in waning gibbous @Baital, I mean that’s bordering on reckless!

I feel the need to play it safe so will opt for a feather weave across to High Street Kensington

Sometimes we need to.live dangerously, and I admit I had a glass too many last night! Very relieved it worked out!

A humdrum Sauté to Mudchute. The DLR is sadly overlooked, not having been in existence in the early days.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 11/10/2025 13:09

This will sort the sheep from the goats. A transverse Hemingway to

Greenwich

OP posts:
LlynTegid · 11/10/2025 13:13

With the aid of the DLR rule and its new fangled trains, a move to Lewisham.

LittleBitofBread · 11/10/2025 15:32

In that case, Llyn, I'll shelve what I had half-planned for now and say Sudbury Town (using the top-storey option).

PunksVersusBrats · 12/10/2025 20:15

Today's autumnal fogginess and a warming drop of port have nudged me to try a Kipling's Shuffle (as per the Leyline Amendment) to
Whitechapel

TragicMuse · 13/10/2025 14:11

I have given this a huge amount of thought. Huge.

London Liverpool Street.

LlynTegid · 13/10/2025 14:25

@PunksVersusBrats I am surprised at the autumnal fogginess which I hope was metaphorical and not to do with the weather. It was one of the warmest mid October days yesterday I can recall.

Bond Street

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 13/10/2025 18:09

There is certainly a chill in the air at Maud Towers. Whether that’s caused by the autumn weather or the standard of recent play, I shall not say.

We were indeed under a murky blanket for the entire day, here in the Land of Song@LlynTegid (enw hyfryd, gyda llaw!)

Anyway, I'm blaming the dragons and alighting at
Blackfriars.

HazelBite · 14/10/2025 07:05

I woke up this morning and read the previous posts with great excitement, I feel inspired and offer Wembley Park

LittleBitofBread · 14/10/2025 17:05

Ah! I see a rare opportunity to make a Darfur Pitstop, to Royal Oak

LlynTegid · 14/10/2025 21:49

Another pitstop at Westbourne Park

TragicMuse · 14/10/2025 23:26

I believe the only reasonable riposte is Dalston Kingsland…

LittleBitofBread · 15/10/2025 17:52

I was waiting for someone to try a Doctor Z!
Dagenham Heathway, with some trepidation looking at the last couple of interstices, but I think the fact of the Marsden Overview will keep us right.

LlynTegid · 18/10/2025 16:20

I'm avoiding a Doctor Z, so a short move to Dagenham East.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 19/10/2025 13:18

It’s Sunday afternoon, so I have little choice but a longward traction to

Acton Town

OP posts:
ChocolateCinderToffee · 19/10/2025 13:22

We're going way out west are we? I'll take it further, to Richmond.
