I've just finished my first cuppa of the day & made myself a coffee to drink while the washer finishes. The kittens have had breakfast and gone back to bed - boy kitten's curled up in the bowl of the cat tree that he's really too big for & girl's gone upstairs, probably on my bed.

I've washed up and tidied round already, then woken dd1 who is just in the shower.

We're off to a gig in Nottingham tonight so going to explore the city a bit more first & visit our favourite pub there 🍹. It's much smaller than last weekend's Fontaines gig. We're meeting one of dd's friends on the train who is also going tonight.

Dd2 didn't want to come to this one or we'd have left later. She'll stay here with dad. He's injured both hands so it'll be a fairly quiet day. She wants to finish the last of the Spanish homework that's been set (lots and lots of listening tasks!) and will probably watch some more of The Rookie - her favourite tv programme.

We're having Wingstop for tea 😋 and they'll probably get a takeaway of some sort.

Late train home for us from Nottingham - hopefully get back into Sheffield in time for our last train from there so that dd's other friend who is coming can get picked up by his dad. If not, it'll be Uber all round to get us back, but we have accounted for spending Uber money this time! Last time was a weeknight & our last train out of Sheffield ob a weeknight leaves as the last train from Nottingham pulls in - we didn't factor in an Uber that night 🙈.

Cuppa and bed when we get in 💤

What about all of you? 🙂

How exciting @workingitout1234 ! Good luck!
Good morning @lucysmam et al, I’m having a cold drink before having a shower, I’ve walked the dogs and done an hour or so’s gardening, mainly heaving pots around and tidying up. The garden is looking tired from the lack of rain although the roses are still going strong. I’ve stood a lot of my pots on trays and given them a thorough soaking, despite being watered almost every day they’re really dry 🫣 I will give them a feed later if I can find my fertiliser in my little garden shed.
I will do a bit more of the painting I started yesterday, I’m using some paints that I’ve had for ages, Kuretake Tambi? They’re Japanese apparently and something between a watercolour and a gouache, opaque and bright colours, so way outside my comfort zone!
Besides that I have nothing planned.
Have a lovely time tonight @lucysmam .

Had a week off this week, but in typical fashion, I've been under the weather since Tuesday with a cough/cold thing. Not super bad, but still not improving.

I've done my food shop, and now just chilling out. Seriously considering returning to bed for a couple of hours as feeling proper tired.

Dinner this evening is going to be a cheese and tomato pasta bake type thing. My two cherry tomato plants have gone wild, and there's far more than I can eat raw, so I'm going to roast them up with some boursin cheese and make a pasta bake, and hopefully a portion or two for the freezer as well.

Morning Lucysmam and all.

Quiet slow morning here, had a lay in til 9 after a really terrible few nights due to illness and DS worries. Needed it! Showered and coffee and I feel really bright eyed now, ready for the day. Put a load of laundry on (DWs gym clothes, she goes every day so by the weekend the basket stinks!) and will hang on the line when they're done, it's a nice sunny day here in my corner of Scotland.

Trying and failing to get DS moving, it's hard getting him out of bed at the moment and I find it really stressful. But he's up at least, playing on his switch, refusing breakfast which I know would make him less grumpy. Hopefully the mood will improve as the day goes on.

Off to TK Maxx to find DW a shirt for a wedding we've got in 2 weeks. We were going to get our eyebrows done while in town, but I got my period just now and hate to have it done then as it hurts so much more, so we'll go next weekend instead.

A chilled day after a horrible week for us all. Much needed. No plans, I'm planning on getting my cross stitch out this afternoon and sticking an audiobook on for a bit.

@zingally I have more cherry toms than we can possibly eat this year too, they've gone bananas! So so many and they taste amazing. I don't know what to do with them though.

DilemmaDelilah · 23/08/2025 11:15

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. And happy birthday @HangingOver! @workingitout1234 I hope everything goes well and swiftly for you.

I woke up at some silly hour in the morning, so after I had had breakfast I went back to sleep for a bit, I've only just woken up. In general I'm usually sleeping better than I have done for a while, so this was just a blip.

I heard from the medical assessor regarding my application for early retirement due to ill health yesterday. I am deemed as tier 2, permanently unlikely ever to be able to return to work in any field, which is how I feel but it's kind of good to know that it's not just me being feeble. It means I can get the remains of my pension (I took most of It when I turned 60) now, rather than having to wait another 2 years. It's not much, but every little helps. I'm also going to apply for PIP, which would help a LOT. I've had my line manager constantly asking me for my retirement date for the last 4 months, and I know she's arranging a meeting for us with HR, which has been stressing me out somewhat.

My youngest DD and Houdini are coming to stay for a few days on Wednesday, so this weekend we will be sorting out their bedrooms and getting everything nice and welcoming for them. I still have a few sweet peas hanging on in there so I can put some in a bud vase in her room. We're celebrating DD's birthday with family lunch next Saturday, so we will have to make the conservatory/dining room look nice too.

Other than that... We were planning on going to visit the churchyard where my parents are buried to tidy up their grave and put down some flowers, but it's bank holiday weekend and the majority of the route is heavily used by tourist traffic, so we decided to put that off to another time.

I have a date for dental surgery at the hospital to remove the roots of what used to be 2 baby upper canines, on September 5th, so everything is moving on! It will be sore afterwards as they will need to cut into the gums, as there really isn't anything to grab hold of above the gum, but it shouldn't be difficult and I will have finished taking my horrible medication by then so I should heal OK.

LizzyEm · 23/08/2025 11:33

I am doing the bare minimum today.
Currently lying on the sofa where I've been all morning.
Will cook my dogs food ready for later in a minute then might have a bath then find something to watch on TV for the rest of the day.

OneLilacEagle · 23/08/2025 11:48

Morning all. It's dry here but very overcast. We've had a leisurely morning of poached eggs and coffee. However I'm feeling very grumpy after a rubbish day yesterday when I crashed my car. Plus I'm still suffering badly from menopause related insomnia which isn't helping. DH is playing around with his birthday barbecue and DS is making himself a bubble tea. We can't really go far today due to the car being a bit broken so I think we'll just chill out at home doing some odds and ends of admin and tidying up. DS has some video game event later that I don't really understand. DH will probably try and get some work done on the house as well. I'll do a bit of Japanese study and hopefully some cross stitch and TV however I'm trying to watch Japanese shows so it's hard to handle cross stitch and subtitles at the same time! Later after enjoying the jerk pork DH is making , we'll try and sit down to plan our Japan trip next year– we might even get round to booking the flights! Very exciting. Have a lovely day everyone! PS sorry my posts are all so Japan heavy just now– hyperfixations are a thing!

HangingOver · 23/08/2025 11:48

Thanks all 😁

My gift from the dog was 4000 feathers

Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?
mondaytosunday · 23/08/2025 11:51

Just about made it still morning!
Ive just finished brunch of sausages (normally have smoked salmon but these were best by yesterday), avocado, egg and tomatoes on a seeded slice of toast.
One of my cats had his eyes operated on this week (his eyelashes were growing in so they slice a bit off under the eye so they grow out) and he is wearing a cone which he hates. Plus he has to have eye drops daily which makes him hate me! So currently avoiding me and I feed him on top of the shed where he’s been hanging out - so feeding the pets at the moment reminds me of feeding my kids when toddlers (I have another cat and a dog).
Washing machine is on. Kitchen tidy then I’m going to settle down and work on my first crochet hexagon cardi while watching YouTube.
It’s Nigella’s Curry in a Hurry tonight which is so easy, quick and yummy! My DD and I are watching Twin Peaks (I saw it first time around), which is still the weirdest thing ever put on TV.

Jewelanemone · 23/08/2025 11:52

Driving down to the south coast to dive on a WW2 submarine tomorrow 🤿

Whattheduck · 23/08/2025 12:02

I’ve been off work for the past week with Labyrinthitis today I just needed to get out of the house as I feel better than I did.
Dh is away with work until Monday and Dd has been either at work or at her boyfriend’s she’s popped home in between to take the dog out and to check if I needed anything. She also bought me some lovely flowers and a bar of chocolate.
So I went to Sainsburys to get a few bits then took the dog for a short walk near home.I have just made myself a smoothie and had an almond croissant.Just waiting for a wash to finish.
No plans for the rest of the day just going to potter about at home and maybe have a nap this afternoon.
Lasagne for tea and probably watch some tv or listen to a podcast.
Have a great day everyone

dontforgetme · 23/08/2025 12:29

Good afternoon @lucysmam and all!

Feeling a little delicate this morning after some impromptu drinks with friends last night. Was lovely to catch up but my stomach isn’t my friend after all the Chinese food that was consumed!

We are having a day in the house today. Dp is setting up our new fish tank, Ds is gaming with friends and dd is due home from a sleepover any minute now. The weather is warm and dry so have one load hanging outside and will wash the beds too. Gammon in the slow cooker for gammon and Boursin pasta tonight. No doubt dd will want to carry on watching Wednesday tonight. V annoying of Netflix splitting the season into 2 parts mind!!

I am going to jump in the shower and settle down with my book for a couple of hours I think.

Have lovely Saturdays all!

Rainbow1235 · 23/08/2025 12:38

Beautiful dog tho just shame bout the feathers

lucysmam · 23/08/2025 13:55

@FayKnights no, not yet. Had two viewings cancelled this week - presumably people before paid the holding deposit. Viewed one an EA suggested, but it was minute & you could smell the damp in some areas, plus they hadn't maintained the garden and there was already damage in the bathroom. Certainly not worth the £950 a month they're wanting imo. I don't think any house is worth that tbh, unless it's immaculate & a mansion!

@mamaduckbone thankfully most are between 10-15 pounds, not hugely pricey!

DilemmaDelilah · 23/08/2025 14:36

@lucysmam not sure where you live (except it's definitely 'up north' from me!) but £950 a month wouldn't get you much down here (not London). My daughter was paying £800 13 years ago for her 2 bedroomed terrace, downstairs bathroom, tiny kitchen, only a small concrete yard.

I wish you all the luck there is in finding exactly the right place for you.

Chelsea26 · 23/08/2025 16:26

Afternoon all - I’ve missed this thread for a few weeks for some reason. Nice to be back!

I’m currently sitting watching DP and DSS play cricket, I was only going to pop down but it’s quite nice, not too hot and a few people I know about so I’ve been here for a few hours now.

This morning DP and I got up early to do ‘Gillian’ which is really called the 30 day shred. We’re on level 2 and it kicks our ass but we both feel good afterwards. We’re alternating that with Couch to 5K every day and doing quite well for two fat old people!

After Gillian we went to Sainsbury’s and did the Big Shop, then I marinated the chicken for tonight (Fando’s) and washed the arms of our soda with our new carpet cleaner!

No plans tonight so will probably continue with problematic MasterChef and drink some Nosecco.

@dontforgetme Gammon and Boursin pasta sounds nice - what else do you put in it?

dontforgetme · 23/08/2025 17:24

@Chelsea26 broccoli, onion, garlic, 1 or 2 chillies depending on which child is eating, salt and pepper. That’s literally it. Super quick and easy, but also really tasty and comforting. I use the garlic and herb Boursin.

Crunchymum · 23/08/2025 17:54

workingitout1234 · 23/08/2025 10:29

Potentially in early labour lots of lower back pains

Eeeeeek. How exciting, hope it all goes well for you.

A day of two halves here. Madness of the morning swimming lessons (I moan about it every week but it's 3 DC at 3 different times and two trips to the pool taking me from 9.10am - 1.15pm all in)

I took the kids to see inlaws after we finally finished as they've been away for for almost 3 weeks. We had a lovely lunch in the garden and I got back a few hours ago without any children. They are all staying for a sleep over!!

So I've sorted a bit of washing, done a few light chores and then I went to bed for an hour and read.

Going to order Pad Thai soon, have a long bubble bath after and watch Netflix.

DP is away until tomorrow so it's probably the first time in a decade I've had a night at home to myself.

I'm collecting kids quite early tomorrow as we have plans but I'll be nice and refreshed having had a good sleep (I hope. Peri is messing with my sleep big time)
