Everyone having a sleepless night, why?

I had a really bad night last night. Took ages to get to sleep and when I did I kept waking up. Despite being so tired I kept waking up.

Got to work and all of my colleagues complained of the same thing. Saw DD1 this evening and she said the same. Said that all of her dept had the same. She said it was like they were all zombies, and it was the same for me at work.

So.....how come? I have noticed that "I had a bad night" seems to something a lot of people suffer at the same time. Atmospheric weather related maybe? Just weird!

FYI we are in the East Midlands.

Ohh this happpened to both me and DH last night too. He’s usually a great sleeper but found him in his office working at 2am as he couldn’t sleep. And I woke up multiple times throughout. But I’m in a different time zone to the UK. Interesting!

I've been like that myself lately and my DH and my DD.
I never sleep as soundly in the summer as I do in the winter.
It's more likely I'll wake up and feel too warm to get back to sleep.
Then the thoughts start churning.
How little we get for our money these days.
How difficult it is to go shopping and feel inspired to make meals when everything has gone up.
How many times we've had to cut back on things that even a year ago, we didn't think twice about.
How the COL is making life seriously difficult for so many people and how the gap between the wealthy and those who are not wealthy has widened, and looks unlikely to narrow anytime soon.
The News. Scanning just the headlines from the top of the page to the bottom.
You couldn't make those headlines up, each one as bad or worse than the one before it.
Worrying about our DCs, how will they do going forward with their lives.
Will they defer having kids till it gets so late they abandon the thought?
Those are just a few of the things that keep me awake at night.

Don’t know, my body just doesn’t like sleeping!
I went to sleep early tonight (for me), about 11ish. And then my eyes pinged open again at 1:30.
i usually have a rule that I don’t touch my phone when I wake up in the night but I had a message come through from one of my dc at 2 and now I’m here!
I’ll nod off again in about an hour and be awake properly at 5 - my body hates me 😂

I can't sleep because:
I'm too hot - swapped to a heavier duvet but it was too soon.
My joints are all stiff and I'm itchy.
I've been feeling stressed and anxious all week. Back from a lovely holiday to work stress, crushing fatigue for some reason, chaotic house, small messy DC off school, worries about a sick pet, sick friends... Feeling irritable and overwhelmed.

I have a 3 week old! Plus a 4.5 year old who has started having nightmares and is scared to go back to sleep and shouting repeatedly. ☹️

Purpleknickers · 23/08/2025 02:38

I am also in the wide awake club, my back hurts and despite taking a sleeping tablet I just cannot drop off to sleep.

TheTempest · 23/08/2025 02:46

I’m here too, in lots of pain and just can’t get to sleep. Busy day tomorrow too 😩

I’m wide awake too, and so is DH! Weird. Surprised to find this thread, when I’ve just given up trying to sleep and decided to take a few mins on Mumsnet while DH goes to the loo. We’re away from home, enjoying a weekend with relatives, which doesn’t usually affect our sleep.

Oh well, I hope we all get some rest before morning, and Emelene’s poor little DC shakes off the nightmares xx

I’ve been weirdly sneezing my head off the last two nights. I don’t know if it’s the tree outside my window but I’ve been absolutely fine during the day then we get to the early hours of the morning and it’s runny nose and constant sneezing. Is nighttime hayfever a thing because that’s honestly how this feels and of course it’s affecting my sleep.

Same last night and tonight. I’m in the East Midlands, too. My parents said they couldn’t sleep last night - both of them - which is unusual. How strange!

Personally I’m lying here killing time while I listen to my husband’s snoring. This is after he woke me up not once but twice while coming to bed one or two hours after me

I’m planning on fucklng up his Saturday morning lie in later this a.m as I’m soooooo fed up of being woken by Nelly the elephant at 2am every night

I've been awake around 2 hours. First night of our holiday in the Lakes. I'm reflecting on the fact my life has changed since last here, 3 years ago. I think it was a mistake to come here. I'm now into peri menopause and I'm currently under investigation for cancer. I'm scared. I'm also pondering the fact that I'm autistic and I'm so burnt out.

I'm so grateful for Mumsnet. I don't feel so alone.

At a theme park and in a room (well , two rooms but no doors) with DC and incredibly loud bedlinen that woke me. DD2 developed an odd skin condition a week ago, lots of back and forth about whether to come here or not, and then an incredibly hard day yesterday with her in pain. DH is off on a solo motorcycle trip. Just processing it all.
