Can I use bleach to clean wooden bed slats?

We had a family friend stay over with my step son for a sleepover. Long story short he had an accident in the bed, I cleaned the mattress and thought that was job done. Just been and flipped the mattress and when I cleaned it it seeped through the mattress to the bed slats. It's an ottoman bed for reference. I've bought a new mattress now. But the slats of the bed are stained and smelly. Can't afford to buy a whole new bed. Can I spray the crap out of them with bleach and scrub and leave to dry? What should I do. Feeling slightly overwhelmed and grossed out. I have a from of OCD and I'm in crisis. If I should afford to buy a new bed I would but I can't and may Dstepson needs somewhere to sleep this weekend 🫠

Yeah I would just put something under them so you don’t bleach your carpet

Thank you my concern is that by cleaning and saturating the wood that it won't dry properly and mouldy or something

What might be useful is a pet stain neutraliser and cleaner.

So kill the bugs and germs, and neutralise the smell too, might be easier on you than bleach,

It may also have a bleaching effect, but easier on your lungs possibly

To avoid saturating the wood I’d use diluted bleach in a spray bottle, or one of those bathroom/toilet sprays that promise to kill 99.99% of germs.

For body fluid like urine you need a solution of biological washing powder.

the enzymes will neutralise any odours.

many years of cleaning up cat pee (long story!)

so I’d get some warm water and washing powder, wash the slats thoroughly. Allow to dry. Then maybe spray a bit of bleach spray for good measure.

if you dry it thoroughly it should be fine. Open windows, if you have a dehumidifier try that. At least it’s warm so should dry ok.

Enzyme cleaner seconded.

Another recommendation for a pet accident enzyme cleaner. They are specifically designed for pee stains and smells.
