Doctors/NHS folks — how much do you actually get from overtime?

Trying to cut through the noise. For junior doctors/SHOs/regs/consultants (UK), what do you really take home from overtime/on-calls/locums?

I’m not after politics or strike debates — just real numbers. If you’re willing, please share:

  • Nation & grade: (England FY1/FY2/IMT/Reg/Consultant; or Scot/Wales/NI)
  • Specialty & region:
  • Base salary (gross):
  • Rota basics: weekly hours, nights/weekends/on-calls
  • Overtime type: exception reports / additional hours / TOIL / bank locum / agency locum
  • Rate per hour: (day / evening / night / weekend if different)
  • Typical extra hours per month:
  • Extra pay per month: gross and take-home
  • Enhancements/allowances: (nights/weekends/on-call availability)
  • Gotchas: unpaid prep/handovers? rota gaps? TOIL instead of cash? delays getting paid?
If you’ve done bank vs agency, what were your real rates and how quickly did you get paid? Also helpful: how overtime affects marginal tax and whether it still felt “worth it” after tax/NI/pension. Blunt answers welcome. I want the reality, not brochure figures
