Achilles tendon help

Is there anything to be done for a sore Achilles tendon? I’m trying to exercise to keep my weight down but it’s really sore/weak and it’s impacting my ability to walk far.

I can keep
it manageable with painkillers but it’s probably not ideal to mask the pain is it.

Can the docs do anything?

Get decent analgesia
get referred to physio (or if you can afford, just go straight to a private physio and get it assessed)
ask docs to give you the Achilles exercises sheet and start doing them at home religiously
don’t wear completely flat shoes - no ballet pumps, flip flops - you want a shoe with a small heel-toe offset. You can buy silicon type wedges to put in the heels of your shoes to reduce the stress on the tendon.
Consider custom orthotics after physio assessment

Sympathies - I had partial tears in both of mine around 15-ish years back and every now and then they flare up and it’s bloody agony. but basically physio is where you want to go with it and the earlier the better.

Oh and sorry to add - you’ll need the analgesia in order to do the exercises required to strengthen it so don’t worry about “masking” - it’s essesntially a myth - a skilled clinician will elicit the signs whether you have pain relief on board or not 😊

I've been suffering with same thing it’s so painful isn’t it I couldn’t flex my foot or climb uphill . I used my private healthcare through work to see a physio. He did an assessment and diagnosed tendonitis and gave me 4 different exercises to do 3 times a day for 2 weeks then once a day . At same time had 4 sessions of acupuncture with electric current and its all resolved.
