Weight loss jabs - a question for those using them

Do they simply stop you from feeling hunger? My issue is that I simply eat when I’m not hungry anyway so I’m not sure if they’d work for me. Or do they actively stop you from wanting to eat?

There's a whole forum dedicated to WLI.

Also Google!! If you type in "how does Mounjaro (or Wegovy) work?" you'll find all the info you need. It was easier to do this than post a thread???

Posting on the main forums doesn't usually go well when discussing them.

They suppress appetite and can reduce food noise. So you are not hungry and don't think of food.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 20/08/2025 08:10

You still feel hungry, because obviously you have to eat. But because they slow down digestion, you feel fuller for so much longer that you don’t want anything in addition. When it comes to the next meal, you’ll find you just can’t eat as much and you feel full quite quickly.

I’m also an over eater regardless of being full but it’s a different sensation. It’s like you can’t stomach anymore food. I have also heard of people being sick from eating too much, although I’ve not experienced that personally.

They've stopped my emotional eating. If I happen to give in, I very quickly, eg , 2 biscuits in, realise this isnt helping and I stop.

Thanks, that was what I was wondering. I wanted to hear real life experiences.

You just don’t fancy food (or in my case wine). The food looks great, it’s stuff you like, but you just don’t want it. It’s a waste but instead of eating it anyway, I really couldn’t.

I still feel hungry if I've not eaten in a while. I don't crave junk food like I used to, I want nutritious whole food instead. I eat a lot of chicken or salmon and veg.

3 bites of chocolate or halfway through a bag of crisps, I'm done and give it away to DH. I can't eat a whole pizza anymore, 2 slices usually.

DBatteryBand · 20/08/2025 08:21

Worked like a switch flicking for me - turned off all food noise. I still get hungry, but when I haven’t eaten for ages, which is how hunger is meant to work. Some of the foods I like have changed - I simply just don’t want cakes, biscuits, crisps and bread products. I still enjoy nice dinners (my DH is a great cook) but eat less. It’s miraculous.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 20/08/2025 08:22

Yes same as PP about not fancying junk. Anything greasy just turns my stomach anyway now and I have been craving fresh vegetables.

I’ve been on it since January - I actually fancied a bag of Kettle crisps the other week, chilli and sour cream (my favourite flavour). I got a big bag, had a few handfuls, and it’s been in the cupboard since then.

I’ve had a few Mars bars here and there but there’s no guilt…it’s just normal, non-disordered eating. Fancied one, had one, craving gone, didn’t want anymore. Whereas previously I would have been thinking and thinking and thinking about having another one, usually giving in.

ViolaPlains · 20/08/2025 08:22

The only way I can describe it is that when I started using them I went to a conference about a week after. At the first break I did what I would usually do and got a coffee and a little packet of biscuits. When I was leaving in the afternoon I was actually shocked to see that I still had the biscuits and I’d not given them a minute’s thought. I just don’t think about the crap food I used to snack on. I still want my meals but not the other junk I used to have.

DBatteryBand · 20/08/2025 08:35

I will add that I was like you, OP, and ate when I wasn’t hungry. I ate all the time, and when I wasn’t eating, I was thinking about eating. I had low expectations of it working for me, but it worked immediately. Best thing I’ve ever done. I’ve lost 3 stone since May and have about 5 stone to go. There’s no way I would have been able to stay on a diet for the length of time needed to lose that amount of weight - Mounjaro enables me to continue eating a healthy diet for a long time.

LifeOfAShowGirl · 20/08/2025 08:36

I’ve found that I can just ignore when I’m hungry now, if it’s not a mealtime. I’ve also found that if I’m bored, I can easily just ignore the desire to eat, or I’ll get whatever it is and then not finish it.

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 20/08/2025 08:38

It’s stopped me snacking on crisps etc, also I only want smaller portions. Don’t feel like drinking alcohol as much.

Busydoingsomething · 20/08/2025 08:58

Thanks everyone. I appreciate that I could’ve Googled this one as someone suggested - but wanted real life experiences and nobody in real life, that I know of, is using them so had nobody to ask.

The big big thing for me is that when you start reducing to lower doses, that nagging voice comes back and you then really have to tie your hands down
