Has your lifestyle considerably changed?

Mine has this year since being admitted to a psychiatric unit in January (coupled with hospital visits) and then release in April.

I now don't work, do voluntary work on 3 afternoons a week and survive on savings and universal credit.

I'm still petrified that I may relapse again. I've put on some weight as I'm on lots of medication to help my anxiety, psychosis, depression, insomnia etc.

Does anyone else have any experiences?

Oh that sounds really tough on you. I hope you make a full recovery. Do you feel better now that you've been in hospital? How much better do you feel now than you did in April? It must have been scary coming out of hospital.

I hope you will be able to work in the future. It's so important to get well first but I'm glad you are volunteering and keeping busy.

Yes 10 years ago I had an operation that went wrong, was left disabled. I was retired on ill health grounds in my 30s. I had to move house, apply for benefits (which the government keep reducing and reassessing). Its a scary existence. I lost my friends and family because I could nolonger look after their kids/ meet up on their terms. I'm rarely able to leave the house. I can no longer drive. I use a stick or wheelchair. I am looked upon totally differently.
I can honestly say the only people I can count on are my 3 adult/teenage kids. I dont have anything in common with people my own age. My retired relatives moan about having to slow down, yet can do much more than me.
People really dont understand how life changing physical and mental health can be.
Its early days for you, things can change, even though my life is very limited I've come to a place of acceptance but that has taken time (and EMDR).
Are you entitled to PIP /ESA? Have you looked at other benefits you may be entitled to like cheaper broadband, fixed water rates, warm home grant, council tax support?

Thank you. I do feel better now that I've been in hospital and I also feel much better now than I did in April, I'm improving month on month.

Sorry to hear of your story, that sounds rough on you.

I'm entitled to council tax support and have applied for PIP but not ESA. Looking into ESA now. I'll look into the other options you say too.
