Any Parents with DC off to Uni This September/October?

DD starting Uni in September and currently gathering the bits that she needs. In terms of food we'll obviously do a shop in whatever supermarket is near her accommodation, but are there food items that keep a long time that may be cheaper to get from amazon, I am thinking tinned vegetables, rice, etc?

Remember they don't usually have much storage space so don't go overboard. Also they may have grand plans what they are going to cook which don't always materialise (or that might just have been DS)

My son is moving into halls on Saturday. The nerves are starting to kick in, i hope he'll be all right.

The first week is a mix of exciting, terrifying and exhausting. Their heads can be a bit all over the place so make sure they have food that is quick and easy to prepare and maybe a bit familiar. I sent mine with a couple of portions of home made meals to go in the freezer which they said went down well when they were feeling a bit overwhelmed.

I agree about not stocking them up with too much stuff as they’ll only have limited cupboard / fridge / freezer space if sharing a kitchen with several others. Also don’t buy any expensive equipment until they’ve figured out what kind of flatmates they’re living with. Half of DDs stuff in first year was ‘borrowed’, and left broken and damaged. One flatmate even used another flatmates mixing bowl to throw up in after too much vodka 🙄
