Progesterone

Good evening,

I am trying to save myself a £50 email charge to the private doctor who prescribed it by asking for advice here instead 😂

I was prescribed 100mg of utrogestan to be taking for 2 weeks/on 2 weeks off alongside the estrogen patch. So far so good.

I am however due to stop taking it and I’m terrified I’ll feel awful for those 2 weeks again. Also confused as to why I’ve been prescribed 100mg while I still have periods as when researching tonight, it said 200mg is the standard.

I would have asked her at the time but I only went about UTIs and came out with HRT!

Thanks

Now that you’ve been prescribed HRT privately, I’d go to your GP and ask for an HRT review. I had to do the same, because my GP originally tried to give me an SSRI instead. No point spending £50 a time when they can take it over.

I didn’t think they would help me with going private. They were useless when I went with peri symptoms previously.

Do you have any experience of the 2 weeks off progesterone?

I stopped taking HRT as I felt awful the two weeks I was TAKING the progestrone. What makes you think you'll feel bad without it?

Why worry about how you might feel? If you ‘felt awful’ before you started HRT it was probably low estrogen. This will have been helped by two weeks of patches or gel and progesterone might not have any impact on how you feel. Just try it - you can always evaluate if you respond badly 🤷‍♀️

But I would try and understand if you’ve been prescribed enough progesterone. As standard, NHS would prescribe 200mg progesterone if you are taking it sequentially (or 100mg a day if continuous). I’d worry that’s insufficient protection.

Just I’ve felt much better on it and will worry I’ll go back to being an anxious mess.

I’ve bit the bullet and emailed about the dose.

@Futureexwife once you’ve been prescribed HRT privately you can get your GP to prescribe it and not pay a fortune every time. Yes, I have had two weeks off progesterone and supplemented with ashwaganda, hayfever tablets, magnesium baths, CBD oil and all sorts. Managed to get the GP to give me continuous progesterone. It’s under review

Well there has been an error and I’m supposed to be on 200mg 🤦‍♀️ good job I questioned it!

That sounds good. I wish I could take 200 mg every day it’s lovely.
