Please can you tell me what your first symptoms were?

I have a patch just above my clitoral hood, about the size of a 5p, that is driving me insane. For the last few weeks It’s itched, burned and stung at different times, and over the last few days I can now see very faint superficial cracks, no bleeding, just what looks like the beginning of a crack in the top layer of skin.

I’ve tried thrush cream and this has no effect.

I was treated for VIN about 9 years ago and it doesn’t look like that, no white patches etc. if anything the “cracks” look a little darker.

Could this be the beginning?

Im 38 and still have regular periods, don’t think I’m in peri yet.

thank you!

You need to see a Doctor instead of asking randoms on a web forum.
If you have it and it’s not something else, only your Doctor can tell you.
Please make an appointment. Let us know how you get on.

Yes..I have LS.
You do need to see a Dr.
I have a very strict routine with steroid cream which keep it at bay..
I was diagnosed over 10yrs ago.

Marylou62 · 18/08/2025 21:12

And my first symptom was a very sore cracked natal cleft.

miserableandworried · 19/08/2025 13:06

Thanks @Marylou62 I’ll try and get an appointment. It’s very difficult where I am to get one!

I had itching that wouldn't go away last summer so went to see the doctor. I've got a moisturiser and steroid cream but since that flare up, luckily I haven't had any more.

I too have LS, diagnosed by biopsy about ten years ago, and attend a Dermatologist who specializes in it. I suggest you get a referral to one asap, because regular checking is important. Usually annually once it’s under control with Dermovate ointment (rather than cream). As PP says, it needs a strict regime to deal with it.

I do, about a 50p patch on the outside front of my vagina. Which is unfortunate as that's where I wipe so if I wipe too hard it sets it off. I only have to touch it and it starts a flare up. You have my sympathies.

I've had all sorts of creams, but the boots anti itching one (here) is the only thing that helps almost instantly.

I have it and use a steroid cream on it periodically. It's been stable for many years (I'm 52 and have had it since maybe my 30s?) The gynaecologist advised me to also moisturise the area regularly.
