How do you restrict screen time when they have homework?

DC13 has time restrictions on her phone. She's limited to 30 minutes internet, which she generally uses up on memes and websites with free games. She used to have a maths app which was fine as that had a separate limit, but this year their maths is on a website, not an app. The official policy of the school is minimal homework. So, they don't get set homework, and the teacher says if they want to do well, they have to do the practice on the website. Thus the teacher is not breaking the school's minimal homework policy.

I'm not often around when Dd does her homework, last year she would send me a request for more internet time citing she had classwork to finish off and then didn't do it as she got "sidetracked" doing something else. How do you keep sensible restrictions on when they have to have access? And how can I e.g, make sure she can only use it for the maths website?

How handy for the teacher that they don’t have to bother setting and marking any homework 🙄 Honestly, this infuriates me and it’s so lazy. Teachers should be encouraging less screen time, not more.

Anyway, back to your op - can you see the progress of what she has done and use it to “check” that way? Or have it on a laptop rather than a phone where she has to do it somewhere visible, ie, kitchen etc.

No, there doesn't seem to be a progress chart or anything. She can do short tests or she can do a "duel". Last year she used the app when she was waiting for a club to start (she doesn't have time to come home, so goes straight there, but is then early) and I'm at work.

I honestly think you need to unclench a bit at 13…. 30 mins a day is tiny

Really? She has 30 minutes gaming time, 30 minutes internet, 20 minutes WhatsApp. That's already 1hr20 - it all adds up. Especially when she also wants to watch tv or Netflix too.
