Would anyone go to A&E with this?

I'm honestly the last person who would go to A&E but because it's the eye, it makes me a bit more nervous. I've thankfully managed to pick up some Antibiotic eye ointment from a pharmacy but anyone think a trip to A&E is needed, or will be fine with the medication?

The eyelid is very sore and hurts to blink etc but other than that I think the eye itself is fine.

Would anyone go to A&E with this?

When DS2 had peri-orbital cellulitis we were fobbed off by the nurse at the surgery and when we eventually got to see the GP he sent us straight to A&E and DS2 ended up in hospital for a week and on IV antibiotics. His started off like yours. I wouldn’t mess about!

It looks exactly like my eye when I get a blepharitis flair up.

it just looks to me like the eyelid is inflamed. It will go down by itself in a day or two.

However, I am not a doctor and it won’t hurt to get it checked out just in case.

In honesty, peri orbital cellulitis tends to be far more dramatic.

This is what I looked like when they queried it with me and sent me to A&E, even then the doc said I would be in a lot more pain as the skin itself would hurt through stretching over the swelling etc. They treated it with hardcore antibiotics just in case, but didn't think it was. The swelling was all down my cheek, across to my temple etc. It was actually way worse than it looks!

Yours looks like a sty. I would probably try what you have been given over the weekend, and if it doesn't get any worse seek advice again on Monday.

Sorry to derail the thread about but did you find out what had made your eye swell like that? I've had this happen at least 4 times this year - generally both eyes and swelling over and under eye down cheek ..exactly like in your pics. I've always assumed it's an allergic reaction ..but to what I have no idea. GP has never been that bothered and just prescribed drops and antihistamine. I live in fear ever time my eye twitches that I'll spend the next few days looking like I've lost on the boxing ring.

Not 100%, still ongoing. The only thing that could get rid of this one was oral steroids for a month or so, heavy duty antihistamines and antibiotics. Even then it still flared up a little every now and then, and the skin stayed red. It had periodically puffed up.over night (always the same eye) in the past, with no apparent reason.

I saw another doctor a few weeks ago, who has referred for allergy testing, and given me protopic ointment.

The GP.etc seemed quite happy to leave me using steroids cream for the foreseeable, and oral ones when it puffed up. Which isn't great.
