Holiday disappointment

got here yesterday, weather looking naff for next week. Much better at home. So annoyed as worked so hard for this week away and looked so forward to relaxing in sun. In mid France, not close to beaches :-(

I had a similar holiday abroad and went home after 2 days. It was no fun.

IMissSparkling · 17/08/2025 12:29

Why would you choose France if you wanted guaranteed sunshine?! Is it not the same weather as here, pretty much?

FanofLeaves · 17/08/2025 12:38

But it’s a change of scenery and routine isn’t it?! Plus I’d be just as happy to eat cheese and drink local wine inside 🤣

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 17/08/2025 12:44

Ah, put on your rain coat and get out and explore. Go see interesting sights, drink wine and eat nice food.

maybe next year go further south if you want guaranteed sunshine.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 17/08/2025 12:46

If you wanted certain wall to wall sunshine then mid France was always going to be a fairly dodgy destination…

get out, explore, make the most of it.

Needtogetfitnow · 17/08/2025 12:48

Chose France as could afford it and is about 500 miles south from our uk home, so yes was hoping would be nice in August.

cant afford to go home early. Will wine and cheese just sad about weather.

Don’t let it spoil things, just enjoy everything else the place has to offer, relax, unwind, stick a jumper on and enjoy the fresh air. Bad weather abroad, on holiday is still better than nice weather at home.

France is lovely but you really need to go to the South of France or other countries like Italy or Spain if you want a more guaranteed chance of sitting in the sun.

Are you in Normandy? Because everywhere south of the North coast is showing 29 -33 high today. Maybe see about moving South if that’s possible.

Brittany is often colder and blowy ( and wet) but even that looks okay

tartyflette · 17/08/2025 13:02

Looking at various forecasts for eg Paris region it seems Wednesday will be worst, heavy rain after light rain Tuesday evening. Looks better by Friday?
Are you near a reasonably large town? Could Look for museum, indoor leisure centre, a centre commercial, undercover, gallery for the day?
On the wet days if you have a car could you do a day trip to somewhere a couple of hours further south where the weather might be a little better?
Commiserations.

Wexone · 17/08/2025 13:06

you can't control the weather I get disappointment- I love sun but research somewhere that is defo sun. You need toxmake most of it - get a car research places to go. bring a rain coat. go sight seeing - enjoy the food and wine. you never know weather Will improve

Crunchymum · 17/08/2025 13:10

We had this a few weeks ago, albeit it was a UK holiday (so I expected nothing less and to be fair it wasn't awful, just wasn't ideal weather)

What would you be doing if the weather was better? Is any of this still an option?

Needtogetfitnow · 17/08/2025 13:30

Today is nice enough, week ahead gets progressively worse.

rain/thunder until one nice day then go home.

would be in pool just reading and chilling, inside the house not the same :-(

We went to Spain one year for a 2 week break in August with children. It rained for 4 days in the middle - proper heavy rain. The outside temperature was still pretty warm so we still swam in the pool and the children thought that was brilliant! We walked round the towns, had great lunches in cafes full of locals (most tourists stayed in their accommodation), visited a couple of historic sites (were given free entry as we were the only people there - unexpected bonus) and generally had a fun time. Take an umbrella and explore the local town and just enjoy the change of pace.
