Two daughters and me 5 days in a cottage near the sea. How much money would you take? I know this could be 0-1000 but how much would you spend? Everything just seems so expensive- help me budget! Please! Thank you

Where abouts? What are your plans- food shop & eating in the cottage every day, out for one meal every day, out for two meals a day? Do you drink alcohol? How are you planning on spending your time, walking, reading, excursions, shopping?

Where are you staying- Skeggy or St Tropez?

Write a plan for what you are going to do and how much each thing hosts. Then add a bit for contingency. Adjust if it seems to high. Enjoy.

Depends what you’re doing whilst there but we tend to budget for £100 a day, but that’s for 2 adults and 2 DCs.

It really depends on what you're planning to do and how old the kids are.

If you've got little ones and you're just going to be on the beach then very little. Particularly if you do a big shop at a supermarket and take it with you and self cater.

If you've got teens and you want to watch out for every meal then it'll be loads more.

The notion of taking holiday money seems strange these days as I would just take my bank card and spend what I spend.

I think you need to look at how much you can afford then plan around that.

Depends if you’re self catering or eating out?

And if you’re eating out, how old your daughters are? If they’re under 10-ish eating from a children’s menu that’s going to be a lot cheaper than the adult menu.

This is such a wide open question and will be very different for everyone. Do you plan to eat at the cottage most days and make picnics if out? Or do you plan to eat out for most meals? If eating out are you planning to get fish and chips on the beach, visit a chain restaurant or cafe, or go for more upmarket dining? Do you plan on free activities? Or do you want to visit big attractions?

think what you want from your holiday and then go from there.
