Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just finishing my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. I've got the window open for some fresh air but haven't ventured outside yet. The washer's on for the towels, so I'll make a coffee and take that out to drink when I've hung them out.

Dd1 was up early for work - she's working Southwell Ladies Day so had to be there early to get the coach from here. The kittens got up with her for breakfast, caused chaos, and have gone back to bed.

Dd2's not up yet - I'm not sure if she's awake. I haven't heard any noise yet. When she gets up, I'll see if there's anything she fancies doing.

I'm going to spend an hour or two on the gig scrap book today. There are photos to print from Fontaines on Friday, and Gracie Abrams at the start of the year. And I'd like to get the first gig stuck in before we see the artist again in a fortnight.

Not sure what's for tea yet. I defrosted chicken, so something chickeny 🤷‍♀️.

After we've tidied up, it'll be my usual Self-Care-Sunday scrubby everything shower followed by an hour or two with my book, then a nice early night 💤

What about all of you? 🙂

Good morning @lucysmam and all.
It's mine and dh's anniversary today, but nothing really planned for that as we've been very busy recently and done lots of eating out etc. We did have a nice lie in this morning, but so far we've been to the tip, Screwfix, B&M and Lidl...very romantic!
Dh and ds2 are building a shed today, ds1 is at work, I'm going to sit at the garden table and do some planning for school - back next Thursday and feeling woefully ill-prepared, although it has been a fantastic summer so I'm not complaining at spending a Sunday on the laptop at this point.
We're having a bbq later, and hopefully a walk and a drink somewhere as a small nod to 23 years of marriage!

Taking it easy this morning. Dh is a fireman and got called out in the night and is now at training until 5pm. Our son didn’t make it home until 4am after a night out either so I’m feeling tired today. I’ve got about 6 t shirts to iron, that is the last of the holiday washing. Tandoori chicken for tea which is marinating in the fridge. Have a good day everyone.x

Morning all, beautiful day here today. I was up early this morning, had an iced latte and chilled for a bit, then went for a run in the park. I’m on the final week of couch to 5k and beat my personal best today, ran 7.4km in 30 mins 💪. Came back, had a shower and washed and dried my hair, now I’m waiting for BIL to pick me up and we’re going on a day out to a farm with DSis, niece and nephew. DD is at her boyfriend’s so I’ve had the house to myself for the weekend. I’ve got a prawn stir fry for dinner later then will watch the highlights of today’s football on MOTD.

Ooh blackberrying - good idea!

Afternoon...😁

I went to a car boot sale this morning as per my usual routine, found a few nice things including a little pink glass cream jug, and on the way home I stopped off at a farm shop and bought a cauliflower. DH saw the pink cream jug and suggested it would be ideal when we have strawberries and cream, so he's gone off to the supermarket to buy the necessary.

We're having cauliflower cheese later with a joint of gammon. I've just put the gammon on to simmer in water & apple juice, with some added odds and ends in the water. Today I used a piece of ginger root, some juniper berries, two cloves of garlic, a sprig of rosemary from the garden, a dried chilli and some peppercorns. Later on it will be finished off in the oven, basted with mango chutney if we have any, otherwise honey & mustard.

Currently drinking coffee and looking through an old stamp collection I got at the boot sale. Did very well price wise, judging by what I've found so far. I'm not sure the person knew quite what they were selling...

Do you know what - these threads are beginning to make me feel like I should start keeping a diary. 🙂

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 17/08/2025 12:27

Good afternoon Lucysmam and others. I'm late to the thread today. I had a long lie until seven. Had two coffees and an almond croissant as a treat. I've washed my bedroom curtains and hung them out because it's a glorious day in central Scotland. Then I went for petrol. Back, and had a cuppa. I've been getting rooms painted, so I reclaimed my living room and filled the bookcase. I've also put my cds back. Next Wednesday he's painting the kitchen and my bedroom. After that it'll be new blinds. I've just finished an ironing and put the clothes away. So I'm having a rest on the couch (bad feet) listening to radio 3. Dinner will be quiche and salad. Enjoy your day all

Woke up at ten going to spend the day doing nothing.

dontforgetme · 17/08/2025 12:38

Good afternoon @lucysmam and all!

been a while since I’ve been on these threads, we are on day 3 of being home after 2 weeks in Florida. Last load of holiday washing is about to be hung up and the kids have 2 more weeks off school. Need to get my butt into gear and do some uniform shopping this week.

We’ve only been up an hour, keep turning my alarm off in my sleep. Really need to get back into UK time. Felt horrible all day yesterday and today’s looking like the same. Any tip?! I can’t rely on an alarm and evidently I keep turning them off 😳

Roast chicken dinner today, it’s way too warm but we all fancy one with lots of veg. Other than that it’s a slow day, have promised dd we will sit and start Wednesday tonight.

Have lovely Sundays all.

Hating parenting my 20 month old.

Didn’t sleep all night
Had a meltdown getting measured for new shoes
Cried because I dared to go for a wee
Wasted all of her lunch

Thislittlekitten · 17/08/2025 12:41

Afternoon all. I keep missing the mornings. Though I have been up and walked the dog and done some washing.

Back at work tomorrow after 7 weeks off! In service day at least so will ease into it. I want to why eveything sorted for tomorrow and make sure all the kids stuff is sorted for Tuesday.

Today will be general tidying. We have chicken enchiladas for tea. Planning an early night.

lucysmam · 17/08/2025 15:22

Any thoughts on my layout? I'm second guessing myself but having fun moving things about. The frame will have a picture of dd1 in it but I don't think she'd appreciate me sharing that 🤣

Happy Sunday all.

Beautiful here today but much more bearable temperature wise (after a week of very high 20s'c +)

After a morning of chores / batch cooking / washing I'm enjoying a blissful few childfree hours. DP has taken the kids out for the afternoon and they are having dinner at in-laws so just little old me to feed later (I'm just going to have a bowl of pasta with homemade sauce so minimal effort)

I'm currently sitting in the sun with a glass of rose lemonade, my book and my playlist on Spotify. Absolute perfection. And I have until at least 6.30pm to myself.

Love the kids, love being off school and work (I've taken 3 of the 6 weeks as annual leave), loved our family holiday but gosh I need these few hours.

lucysmam · 17/08/2025 16:24

@Crunchymum one of my favourite things is Spotify & a glass or two of wine! I always play an album though, or from an artist, never make a playlist. Maybe I should 🤔. Who are you listening to?

I've got a playlist I've been adding to for 5 years now so it's huge and very random. Currently listening to "Zoom" Fat Larry's Band but before that it was "Just What I Needed" The Cars and next is "Champagne Supernova" - Shuffle keeps it interesting 😂

Ooh, an ever growing playlist might be interesting actually! I'm not keen on shuffle though...I like to know what's coming next.

I listened to someone's Oasis tour setlist playlist the other day, that was fun! Surprised I still knew the words & still skip the same songs 🤣

Love carboot sales! That’s my dream - to find a seller that’s not really aware of the value of their goods. It’s definitely much more rare these days. Same in charity shops. Wonder how much your stamps are worth? I have a thing about jugs & always look for them in antique shops, tabletop sales etc. Love a good jumble sale too but you hardly see one these days.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 17/08/2025 18:41

I had a lie in with a slight hangover. Then got up and took my dog on a trail run. It was a lovely morning for it. Then home for a shower and some lunch. Took dd2 out for a drive as she has her test tomorrow and then chilled in the pool for a couple of hours floating about and reading my book. It’s been a lovely day tbh.

MsPengiuns · 17/08/2025 18:52

Been gardening with DH for a few hours with 3 silkies following us round. DD has gone off camping with friends. DS has been taking a long bath which apparently needed 1/2 a bottle of bathfoam. 🙂

Going to have a Sunday roast which DH is cooking this evening. Beautiful day here.

lucysmam · 17/08/2025 20:38

@MsPengiuns obviously ds needed half a bottle of bathfoam, duh!. 🙄🤣

I sometimes wonder if my two are drinking the stuff!

Well I paid £20 for the stamps, and having had a quick peruse, definitely more than that. It was a charity stall, so I might go back and give them a few more quid. I think they are there every week.

MsPengiuns · 17/08/2025 21:07

😂@Lucysmam I never thought my asd teenage boy would one day be using loads of my floral and fruit foam baths - rose is his favourite. I'm just glad he is bathing. Industrial quantities of conditioner too. Today he must have used 300ml or so of grapefruit.
