Lift sofa to clean, how?

Not sure where to post this but really need cleaning tips.

Extremely heavy leather recliner sofa with little room to manoeuvre. I may be able to lift a back cushion but they are tricky to move from front.

Really need to clean under, right at the back.
When cleaned am planning to put pool noodles under the front to reduce opportunity for DC to push random things under.
Only me to do it, any tips/tools for lifting or pulling it forward (I'll have to jump down the back to clean it). Currently there's not enough room to get down the back to push it forward.

Why’s there’s no room?

Sadworld23 · 17/08/2025 08:46

It's wedged into an alcove, so options are either pull it forward, or lift up. But it's really, really, heavy, even without the back cushions if I can lift them off.

If your on your own then the only options is to pull it out to get to underneath. I have heavy recliners the are a pain to clean. Everything gets underneath them. What about reclining them and getting down underneath?

I doubt there will be room for much mess to accumulate underneath if it’s tight.

You can buy furniture lifting tools. I thought about it for mine but haven’t bought yet.

We can't recline there BC there's not enough space, bought for a previous house. Still comfy so not changed it. Good idea though.
Really not sure I'll be able to pull it out, but desperately needs a clean.
@RentalWoesNotFun we have a toddler who chucks stuff down the small space at the back, and under the front. I can clean about 5-6 inches from the front with my hand and a cloth but beyond that no chance.

Eda thought of lifting tools but think I need side access and reviews on ones I saw aren't great.

I would try to get some gliders stuck under the feet - you’ll need help to do this but from then on you should be able to slide it out when you want to clean.

I have a wiry drain cleaner tool that’s good for stuff like this £1 from Tesco essentials I form it into a hook shape and do a sweep underneath to get out stuff then wrap a microfibre cloth (slightly damp) and do a dust. Litter pickers for down the back.

I've been tempted to buying these, but haven't yet.

I'm still unsure how they'd work if you're trying to get something out of a restricted space where you can't access the back legs/edges, but the reviews/video seem to suggest that it's possible even with just the front bit on wheels.

but for a sofa where you can access the back legs, it could be worth a try?

My cleaner uses a flat duster that fits under our heavy leather recliner. They are a tenner from Lakeland or could probably find a dupe. We have dogs so she always get the tumble weeds out!

Thank you, it's carpeted and I can see random things down the back, but once it's clean, this gadget may be useful thanks.

Order placed, I'll let you know how I get on..

Thank you
