Does anyone follow the Larter Family in Uganda ?

Letsgodancing · 17/08/2025 01:13

So you could say they are 'family vloggers' I see them a lot on tiktok. Their handle is 'the larters'
Emilie is a British woman who moved to Uganda and adopted a Ugandan child (both are UK citizens). She than met a Ugandan man, and have taken in children from his family who she wants to adopt but is having issues doing so due to local laws. She is still young too.
Anyway she wants to bring all of them to the UK for a better life and posts about her struggles of life in Uganda.
She has a go fund me and is working on social media, so she is trying to raise 80k to have the money to bring them all over to the UK
I'm fascinated by it all so wondered if anyone else has come across her videos?

OP posts:

Sounds a bit too white saviour complex to me.

Exactly my thought.

Have followed for a while. The adoption process for her partners relatives sounds incredibly complex and like it's just going to cost more and more money.

I wonder how they would all adapt to UK life after only E and her son having ever been here for short visits.

I don't think the plan is for her to adopt the kids as it's too complex for her due to their being initial uncertainty around who the kids biological parents were. For ages they thought the kids were her partners siblings i think? But now realises it's more like they are maybe cousins?

I think he has to adopt them. Then maybe the 2 of them get married AFTER that. I could be wrong but I def don't think her adopting them is on the cards right now as she said the laws in Uganda have changed and made it harder for that now.

No, but nice bit of advertising for her fundraising

Insertfootnote · 17/08/2025 05:11

Why should they all come over here? She chose to marry a Ugandan and adopt there. She should stay there.

They aren't married. Not even sure if they are engaged.

My thoughts exactly. Though I have heard of them, I think. Either them or a similar family in FB.

RingoJuice · 17/08/2025 05:29

It seems like a grift. She could support them more effectively if she returned to the UK alone, worked a normal job and sent them money. It would go further, especially as it seems the relationship of those kids to the man is not as initially described. Shady tbh

DevilsIvyy · 17/08/2025 06:07

I’ve gone off them massively. Pure begging.

PinkZebraStripes · 17/08/2025 06:19

I cannot imagine the psychological impact of bringing them back. I feel like they'd be much happier staying there. The racism and bullying will be awful. I lived in East Africa for a year - it's incredible. I almost had a mental breakdown when I came back. The sheer level of Western consumerism is staggering in comparison.

AwakeNotThruChoice · 17/08/2025 06:35

With people I know who have adopted children, due to safe guarding they are never in public (social media type) photos.

Seems a big mess and in the videos she does all the talking, there are lots of ‘cuts’ which always makes me suspicious!

MyOtherProfile · 17/08/2025 07:26

I just had a look. Is there a back story to these extra children? Who are their parents, for a start?

YanTanTetheraPetheraBumfitt · 17/08/2025 07:38

Not heard of them but sounds awful.

A friend of mine runs a “baby rescue” service in Kenya, well established charity. They take in babies who have literally been abandoned on the streets and care for them into adulthood, ensuring they have a good education. They wouldn’t dream of trying to get these kids to the uk for a “better life”.

It’s perfectly possible to have a good life in Uganda (I worked out there for a while).

There’s a good thread on tattle.

Can you link to it? I found an old one but can’t read any others as they’re all for members only.

What an absolute grift!

It's like a troll thread on here, but with added £$€. A sad story, a series of unfortunate events, loyal cheerleaders and look! a range of gofundmes/kofis/patreons.

Those poor kids.

Even more reason why none of them should be over here.

I wish I could access Tattle 😁

You know that baby rescue places aren’t necessarily ethical either? Babies are sometimes abandoned because they exist and then the children are brought up in the orphanage. Charities are better to support social care in the community.

Sounds a bit too white saviour complex to me.

Her videos have occasionally popped up on my for you page - this is the exact impression I got. It’s all rather cringeworthy and none of her content sits right with me.

BlackCoffeeAndSugar · 17/08/2025 14:10

I think it will take YEARS to raise anything like what they apparently need to 1. Go through with the adoptions. 2. To have enough to be allowed to move here.

By which point the kids will be closer to teenagers and I really wonder if theye will want to come to the UK!

Her partner doesn't work so he can sort the adoption stuff all day. But this seems to be taking many years.

They've been on tiktok for ages and have been given a decent amount and must have earned a decent amount. But they seem to just keep needing more and more.

I'm confused by the dog situation? They seem to spend a lot of the money rescuing dogs.

They don’t have an orphanage, they have foster carers so the children stay in home environments. They do a lot of preventative stuff as well I believe. I don’t claim to be an expert but they’re doing their best with very little money and it seems better than leaving a baby out in the street

I wonder how her parents feel about it all.
