I react badly to bites and use 1% hydrocortisone cream and take an antihistamine tablet. Easy to buy. If you need more help suggest talking to a pharmacist.

Heat works for me every time. Spoon in a cup of hot water. Put it on the bite making sure don't burn yourself.
The sooner you do it after being bitten the better.

Antihistamines and stop scratching (not easy I know).

The hot teaspoon does wonders.

Lollypop701 · 16/08/2025 08:36

You can replace the hot teaspoon with a hairdryer… it’s a wonder cure

Antihistamines and calomine cream. Is what I use.

One of these https://www.lifesystems.co.uk/products/bite-relief-click. They are amazing, I have a Boots own brand one, and another brand one.

Lemon juice or Vinegar (but the smell is obviously not the best)

Edit to say I also agree with prev posters the hot spoon works wonders, heat in general tbh

ImustLearn2Cook · 16/08/2025 08:46

calamine lotion

DD and I have Skeeter Syndrome, so massively over react to bites (they can swell to the size of marbles). We use the Bite Away pen which uses heat to disperse the enzymes which cause the itching. It's excellent, painful but excellent.

I second the Bite Away heat pen. Got mine from Amazon. I react really badly to bites and this has been a godsend.

I have one of these too and they are incredibly good - the only thing I've ever found that actually works.

However, it's all about timing - if you've already started scratching and the itch is unbearable, some oral antihistamines will help.

Interestingly (and this is purely anecdotal, I have no science to back this up), some years ago I was travelling in a very mosquito-y area and started taking an oral VitB12 supplement and garlic capsules about a month in advance.

Normally I'm a bitey thing buffet, but on this occasion, although I still got the odd bite, they were far fewer than normal and I wasn't as reactive.

As I say, this is purely my experience and I know that correlation does not necessarily equal causation, but it seemed to work for me.
