First times to celebrate

Today I went into a restaurant and for the first time with just my little family, I asked for a table for 4 instead of 3 - or latterly, 3 and a buggy!

Mr 6mo loved sitting up in his high chair guzzling lumpy orange concoction. Big sister loved what a mess he made and how she was the grown up one able to eat much more neatly!

I loved this tiny first time that signifies the chapter of family life we’re in.

Whatever stage of life you’re at, is there a tiny first time that you’ve noticed and enjoyed recently?

It's sometimes just those little moments isn't it op ❤️

My older 4 dc consist of 2 in their 20s and 2 teenagers. One of them recently went through something upsetting, and seeing the way they all, with no input from me, rallied around, made sure to message and call and visit, bought small gifts to cheer him up, and were there for him when he called at 3am, and checked in with each other to make sure ds had constant support from them really warmed my heart (its a given that he had 24/7 support from me).

I had a really abusive family, then an abusive marriage and have brought them up all by myself, and I always worried that I totally fucked up or they wouldn't be close because I don't have a family (all nc), but sometimes these small things just let me know I've actually done alright.

That’s so lovely - you’ve definitely done something right to help enable such a supportive sibling group ❤️ hope it’s healing in some way after all you’ve been through. X

Nando’s - nothing special but I don’t feel too bad about the kids making a bit of mess!

Oh this is so lovely.

DD3 lost a tooth today. She is 7. The only one to not have lost a tooth in her little world if friends and peers.

her sisters, who have done nothing but fight with each other declared a night of love. They all ran around after her and brought her ice cubes, blankets. Helped her leave it under her pillow.

it wasn’t so much the event, it was how serious her sisters took it and rallied.

really filled my bucket with joy.

My 13 year old son gave my first ‘just because’ gift today! He’d been on the train to our local big shopping centre and returned with a Lush bubble bar for me! It’ll give me migraine and thrush most likely but both are worth it for his little (big) face when he presented me with my gift!

nandos is fab for kids. (And adults!)

hope you got the yoghurt too!!

My DS bought me a cookie from his school cafeteria, it’s his first week in high school and he wanted to get me a treat after a busy summer, to say thanks for helping him be ready for high school.

I nearly started a thread today because my three (7, 3, 3) played independently for 2.5 hours this afternoon while I read a novel and drank coffee. I feel like a new woman.

Brilliant, what a thoughtful thing when it’s such a big moment for him, no one would expect him to be thinking of others.

I’ll tell you the best and weirdest ‘First Time’ to celebrate…the first time your ‘child’ is the one who is giving you a lift home. First time my, then, 18 year old gave me and DH a lift home from our friend’s garden party was a real milestone. It was the ‘five more minutes’ countdown she gave us whilst we finished our wines that made us laugh 😆

EssentiallyDecluttering · 15/08/2025 23:13

My eldest passed his driving test recently and the following week
came out to pick me up from a party so I could have a drink instead of driving myself.

That’s amazing - I can imagine her enjoying the power of being the driver and thus deciding the leaving time!

Congratulations to him - and you, for this new chapter! 🎉
