Bit of advice from dentists / dental nurses

DS11 had a routine dental appt this morning. He's autistic and finds those appointments really hard but did super well and managed the full appointment with a clean bill of health, until they wanted to do an X-ray and needed him to put the big plate things inside his mouth.

He couldn't manage that, and the dentist is happy for us to try again at the next appt, but I wondered if there's any alternative options for an X-ray that don't require him to have such unwieldy things in his mouth?

Unfortunately the other types of x Ray are not very useful for diagnosing decay etc .

The plates are not that large , I’ve taken x rays on 4 year olds with no problems , but you can try asking if he can practice putting one in . You won’t be able to take the plate or holder home because they are massively expensive , but he might be able to have a practice in the surgery.

Thanks, Lollygaggle, that's really useful to know. Is plates their technical name? It'll help when I next take him as I can flag to the staff what might be difficult.

The plate is the bit that the x Ray appears on , they are held in a plastic holder .
