Apple Watch - worth it?

I’m kind of tempted because of atrial fibrillation history in the family. I know they caveat that they can’t diagnose, but maybe for my own peace of mind. If you’ve got one, have you found they’re worth it?

We all have them and love them, it’s my standard way to pay for things. I like the fitness features too. We had an interesting experience recently where DD and I were coming home on the train after an evening out and she got a high heart rate warning. It meant we monitored it over the next few hours and she ended up in hospital. It was so useful.

Thanks all, I’m definitely feeling more swayed on the heart monitoring. Less temptation to scroll etc is also quite appealing to me!

Garmin Fēnix and HRM-600 is the perfect combo. Apple is overpriced for the features.

I have Apple Watch 7 and iPhone
love them both

I’m always losing my phone so although I can use find my phone I have a tile on my keyring and I just press that and it makes my phone ring

also if I lose my keys I can press the tile app on my phone and my the tile makes a noise so o can find my keys

No the battery life is rubbish, have a look at garmin instead

Mine lasts ages and I wear it all the time. Maybe yours was old or faulty.

Apple Watches need charging daily. I do mine overnight. If I want to wear it for sleep tracking I pop it on the charger when I go up to bed. By the time I finish brushing my teeth, getting changed, reading etc it’s pretty much done. I then put it back in the charger when I’m in the shower in the morning and it’s back to full.

Not 20 days I’ll grant you but not a hardship.

Which model do you have? I found this with my older model, but I recently upgraded and the battery life is so much better. I now usually charge it every 2 or 3 days

Which version do you have? I have the version 8 which requires daily charging and therefore a pain in the arse.

I've got the version 10, I last charged it on Wednesday night and it's still on 61% battery now

This is the 4th one I’ve had. I got the very first one launched 10 years ago.
I’ve got a series 9. They’ve all needed charging daily in my experience. It’s routine and not a problem.

mylovedoesitgood · 15/08/2025 11:35

Thanks for that info @Spanador I think I'll treat myself to version 10 model (will be reduced in price sometime in the autumn after the version 11 is launched in a few weeks' time).

Not interested in Garmin or others here, I love my Apple watch. As well as exercise and heart monitoring I use it to find my phone, for navigation when walking and running, controlling what I'm listening to on my airpods, apple pay, the timer, glancing at notifications during work meetings so I can duck out to take important calls but ignore others, sending messages (I dictate mine rather than using the finger writing), taking calls when my phone is elsewhere in the house or I'm in the garden. I charge mine overnight so no issues there but if I forget, as others have said, it's very quick. Mine's a 10, I traded in my old SE because after a few years the battery wasn't lasting all day if I exercised a lot and for improved heart monitoring.

It’s worth it alone for the feature where you can use it to make your phone make a sound. As someone who is always putting their phone down in random places, I use it almost daily.

This!

wimonnzy · 15/08/2025 12:20

I have Afib but don't do alerts, I know myself when things are out of whack, and can then check the heart rate and if it's above X for more than a few hours off I go to get checked. The Afib alarm did upset me a lot and made me anxious, but the reassurance of seeing the heart rate is great.

I look up kms (steps) walked every day
Turning off Audio book when needed
Weather at a glance
Find phone
Buzz alarm (I'm deaf and use aids) - this is brilliant for me.
Other alarms and timers from phone.

That's it mostly. I charge overnight. I don't want to know about sleep, that'd keep me awake lol.

IwasatClaines · 15/08/2025 12:32

I love mine. You don’t even need to press any buttons when you are going through contactless public transport barriers, just hold the watch against the scanner and the gates open!

I dictate replies back to people who have messaged me when I am exercising or out walking and I can’t be arsed getting my phone out.

Use alarms for my weightlifting reps and for everything else, even for brewing my tea!

Useful for navigation as well, especially when you are driving and it vibrates just before when you need to turn.

Yes it has a poor battery life but charges very quickly. I have a cheap little USB charger at work in case I forget to do it overnight and it’s so fast.

Will definitely replace. My almost 90 year old mum has one too and loves it.

Mathsbabe · 15/08/2025 16:53

I love mine, I use it for sleep and the gym and much much more. One day I fell and it was all set to call 999 for me, I didn’t need it so cancelled it. I leave my phone at home when I go to the gym because I can make, and take call on my watch. I use it for music in the gym, I wouldn’t be without it.

PearlsPearl · 15/08/2025 17:05

I loooove mine.

I got it in March because I now work in an office where you can't have your phones out but wanted to be still reachable for DCs and school etc. If a call comes in I want to answer I just pop out. And I can read and reply to texts quickly on it.

I charge it when I'm in the shower daily and that's it, I wear it 24/7 other than that shower time!
