Is Tencel fabric clothing horrible to wear?

I’m off to Botswana (southern Africa) next month (spending a few days on a safari) and I’ve seen a midi length skirt in a beige colour.

It’s made of Tencel, which the label states is a ‘natural’ fabric. I’ve only thought of linen, cotton and silk as being natural.

Is Tencel prone to creasing badly? (We are touring) and more importantly, will I get sweaty wearing it? Apparently daytime temperatures are likely to be very hot so I think a skirt might feel cooler than shorts?

I quite like Tencel. It's soft and light, and doesn't feel 'nylony'. I have no idea what it's actually made of though.

I like Tencel too. Soft, light and silky and not as bad as most natural fabrics for creasing. I have to admit I'd assumed it was some sort of polyester based thing though.

I just looked it up, it's made from woodpulp.

Tencel is a brand name for a type of viscose. It’s fairly crease resistant. It’s technically natural fabric, but more realistically it’s a semi-synthetic due to the manufacturing process.

I have various Tencel button down shirts but I do find them a bit heavier than say pure cotton. Generally quite hard wearing.

I like tencel too, I think it drapes nicely.

It's a kind of rayon/viscose. I have sone Patagonia skirts in Tencel lyocell jersey fabric they are very light and cool. Definitely not sweaty, viscose generally is a cool feeling fabric.

It's similar to viscose, and I love that for summer clothing.

Tencel is nice - it’s like thicker viscose

breathable, soft and slightly silky. It has a soft sheen to it. It does mark a little especially greasy marks

it’s cold to the touch and drapy

TheOliveFinch · 14/08/2025 20:52

Tencel is light and drapey but I prefer viscose challis which is similar

Tencel is a brand name for lyocell. Tencel is manufactured by the Austrian company Lenzing AG.
