Weight loss jabs what am I missing

Givemethesun · 14/08/2025 17:00

I’m probably behind on the news given young dc but I keep seeing threads and news articles on weight loss jabs. Are these becoming the norm / readily available for everyone?! Or is it just celebrities / people with severe health problems?

am I naive but surely a
nation injecting themselves can’t be good? What are the side effects? Why are we not educating people on health and healthy eating.

apologies if I am missing something or behind

What’s a NHS compensation scheme got to do with mounjaro?

I'm not too sure.

Ask @BlankBlankBlank14

For some reason she questioned if I was an 'antivaxer' because I expressed the view that these WLI will have undesirable side effects in the future.

She also wrongly assumed I read the drivel in the Daily Mail. I have absolutely no idea on what grounds she made this outrageous assumption.

What an amazingly goady, faux naive thread.

This. I simply don’t believe you OP.

That poster claims that WLI will have issues for people in the future, not maybe, not possible, they will, based on no scientific knowledge or research.

She thinks that compensation schemes for vaccines proves that pharmaceutical companies can’t be trusted.

The assumption was made because you talk nonsense!

How do you know they won't??

Oh yes of course. It's because Mounjaro themselves have said so?

I haven’t said they won’t!

There are more WLI than Mounjaro, which again shows your lack of knowledge.

One of the things that is confusing me is here we are saying they’re prescribed only to certain people who really need then which I can get on board with if it is just those people , but then I open daily mail which makes it sound like every celeb is on them. So it doesn’t marry up in my head

Who the fuck reads the Daily Mail?

If you are believing everything you read in the DM that’s your issue. Extend your input.

I guess every fat celeb is on them. Why wouldn't they be if they want to be slimmer and can afford them. No good reason not to be, surely?

But people aren’t getting mounjaro off the NHS!!!

InWalksBarberalla · 14/08/2025 20:42

I don't understand why some posters are more concerned with the potential nebulous long term impacts of the weight loss medications than the well known and proven long term impacts of obesity.

Mrsmunchofmunchington · 14/08/2025 20:45

Twattery.
Try harder OP. The role of ingenue is not really working for you.

Read a better news source and get informed.

lunar1 · 14/08/2025 20:52

Make sure you let NICE know what you can get onboard with @Givemethesun, they are definitely lacking uninformed opinions in their guidelines.

Subtlety1985 · 14/08/2025 21:07

Weight loss injections can be beneficial for people who are obese and at serious risk of heart attacks or other health complications. However, I don’t believe they’re appropriate for those who aren’t at a dangerous weight and could lose a few pounds through lifestyle changes and discipline.

Mounjaro carries a black box warning - the most serious warning the FDA can issue. The warning is for thyroid cancer, due to findings from animal studies where a number of rats developed thyroid tumours after being given the drug. The authorities haven’t disclosed the exact percentage of affected rats, which raises concerns that they’ve chosen to keep that detail hidden.

What’s more, there hasn’t been a clinical trial on humans specifically assessing a long term cancer risk. So ultimately, we don’t know the long-term effects. It might turn out to be completely safe—or it might not.

That level of uncertainty is a risk I don’t think people should take lightly.

What is to be gained by the hard way, though, apart from finances?

That’s a genuine question, as from your post it sounds as if you think there is an inherent virtue or moral element to doing it ‘the hard way.’

I don’t think there is. I’ve never been a fan of making life more difficult for the sheer sake of it. I don’t want to be miserable or conflicted if I have an alternative.

Good for you. Whatever works.

i have been where you are approximately 20 times in 30 years. I’m now using Mounjaro AND eating better AND working out. That’s what works for me.

You do you and all, but please, take care up there, it’s a long way down

i did it the hard way, lost seven stone naturally. Gained it all back, and more, within a year. Because it was all consuming & I became as equally obsessed with restricting my intake as I did with overeating in the first place.

Mounjaro allows me to eat healthily, feel satisfied, I have the energy to work out, I’m calmer and happier overall all without putting any thought into it. It’s given me back a life that doesn’t revolve around food. I can assure you I don’t feel any less proud of my weight loss this time than last time.

ultimately I want to be fitter and healthier for myself and my children and I want to feel good about myself. That’s the end goal, the journey being more unpleasant won’t make that end goal feel any better

I only know one person on these. She has just come out of a 13 day stretch in hospital due to them. She was in a whole ward of women who were all there due to them too. She was extremely ill.

Blimey I’m surprised that didn’t make the paper, a whole ward of women who were ill from WLI would be a daily mail dream!

what was the illness?

what was wrong with her, and the rest of the ward? That’s unreal, which ward were they on? Or have they got a new special ward opened up for all these women?

And in today’s episode of this never actually happened… 😂
