Is it normal to focus so much on getting back to bed?

From the moment I get up, all I want to do is lie back down. It is literally my focus of the day. Every fibre in my being just wants to stop and retreat back to bed. But I don’t. Anyone else feel like this? I could cry I’m so desperate to just stop and go back to bed.

Is it tiredness or depression? Because looking back that was a clear indication of depression for me as that was all I looked forward to.

Might be depression, also thyroid issues ot low iron. Both made me so tired.

Go get some blood tests done.

SirChenjins · 14/08/2025 08:07

As @iirbRosb do you feel tired, or is your mood very low? When I have depression, I just don't want to leave my bed and find it really hard to get up.

UnfashionableArtex · 14/08/2025 08:08

Was definitely depression for me too, have also had times like this (not as pronounced) when anaemic.

fatgirlswims · 14/08/2025 08:32

I have felt like this and there must be more to it either physical or mental health. Mine was long Covid mixed with busy life but it took a long time to work it out. Have you been unwell, under stress or low mood?

mine really was a mix of all three but the tipping point was two very bad bouts of Covid.

i also reckons I’m am a bit anemic so take iron, b12 and D+K2

If you haven’t already, it might be a good idea to ask for a blood test, @HerbalTeal. The two things that have made me feel like that have been severe anaemia, and at a different time, the after effects of Covid. In both cases I was exhausted for months and months.

BCBird · 14/08/2025 08:46

I wouldn't say that is normal OP. Is the tiredness due to depression or is it possible you are suffering burn out? Maybe seeing your GP could be a good start. You might have some vitamin deficiency? Hope you get things sorted OP.

I agree re having blood tests and also the possibility of depression.
When I was on statins I felt like you do. I don’t take them now and I’m a different person.

ModeratelyDepressedSelf · 14/08/2025 09:20

You're not alone. I have a mix of some of the things mentioned by previous posters. A few months in it's not quite as awful as it was. I'm desperate for this to lift and to be able to feel happy and do things again.

Iwishilivedinfairyland · 14/08/2025 09:55

I've felt like that for the last 12 years! It started when I first took antidepressants. I don't take them anymore but the tiredness never went away. I've had blood tests etc. I'm just tired all the time and sleep on the sofa a LOT.

My extreme tiredness and wanting to just go to bed was due to very low folate levels, and also sleep apnea.

I would’ve put money on me NOT having sleep apnea when the GP suggested it and I had a sleep study - I was sleeping all night, it never felt like a disturbed sleep, I wasn’t snoring or choking or anything like that. Turned out I was holding my breath between 12-18 times an hour. Now I have a CPAP, and I wake up feeling rested and can get through a whole today without feeling exhausted.
